Role Overview

We are seeking a driven and commercially focused Business Development Manager to expand local market presence, develop new business opportunities, manage key accounts, and drive consistent revenue growth within the food ingredients and industrial solutions sector.

The selected candidate will be responsible for identifying potential customers, managing major accounts, building strong business relationships, overseeing order execution, supporting payment collections, and ensuring customer satisfaction through professional and transparent business practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify and develop new business opportunities across the local market.
  • Generate leads and expand the customer base within food ingredients, industrial solutions, retail, distribution, and B2B sectors.
  • Manage and grow key accounts, including retail chains, distributors, industrial customers, and other major clients.
  • Build and maintain strong long-term relationships with customers and business partners.
  • Understand customer requirements and recommend suitable product or service solutions.
  • Drive sales targets and ensure consistent revenue growth.
  • Prepare sales plans, customer proposals, quotations, and commercial recommendations.
  • Follow up on sales leads, inquiries, quotations, and pending customer decisions.
  • Negotiate pricing, payment terms, delivery timelines, and commercial agreements.
  • Oversee order execution to ensure customer requirements are fulfilled accurately and on time.
  • Coordinate with internal teams to support deliveries, documentation, stock availability, and customer requirements.
  • Monitor customer satisfaction and resolve service-related concerns professionally.
  • Ensure timely follow-up on outstanding payments and support collection activities.
  • Maintain transparency, professionalism, and ethical conduct in all customer dealings.
  • Monitor market trends, competitor activities, pricing movements, and customer requirements.
  • Identify opportunities to introduce new products, expand existing accounts, and improve market share.
  • Maintain accurate customer records, sales activities, pipeline updates, and follow-up notes.
  • Prepare regular sales reports, account updates, market insights, and revenue forecasts.
  • Coordinate effectively with internal departments to ensure smooth business operations.
  • Perform any other business development or sales-related duties assigned by management.

Candidate Profile

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, or a related field.
  • Minimum 3 to 5 years of experience in business development, sales, key account management, or a related commercial role.
  • Experience in the food, food ingredients, industrial solutions, B2B, distribution, or retail supply sector will be preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of the Sri Lankan market and key customer segments.
  • Proven track record of achieving sales targets and managing customer accounts.
  • Ability to identify new business opportunities and convert prospects into long-term customers.
  • Strong customer relationship management and account development skills.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
  • Good commercial awareness with the ability to understand pricing, margins, payments, and customer profitability.
  • Strong follow-up skills with the ability to support collections and outstanding payment management.
  • Ability to coordinate effectively with internal teams and external customers.
  • Good planning, reporting, and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple customer opportunities.
  • High level of professionalism, accountability, transparency, and business ethics.
