Role Overview 

We are seeking a commercially driven and detail-oriented Factory Accountant to take ownership of factory financial control, production costing, inventory governance, and operational finance within a leading flexible packaging manufacturing environment. The successful candidate will play a critical role in driving cost efficiency, maintaining accurate production costing, strengthening inventory controls, supporting operational decision-making, and ensuring the highest standards of financial governance across factory operations. This role is ideal for a finance professional who enjoys working closely with Production, Procurement, Stores, and Operations teams while providing meaningful financial insights that improve profitability and operational performance.

Key Responsibilities 

Production Costing & Efficiency

  • Maintain and manage standard costing and actual costing structures across products and production lines.
  • Monitor raw material consumption, wastage levels, yield performance, and production efficiencies.
  • Perform detailed variance analysis covering materials, labour, utilities, and manufacturing overheads.
  • Identify cost gaps and provide recommendations to improve factory profitability.
  • Maintain accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs) and ensure costing structures remain current and reliable.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying process inefficiencies and cost-saving opportunities.
  • Provide cost analysis to support pricing, operational, and commercial decision-making.

Inventory Management & Control

  • Manage and monitor Raw Materials, Work-in-Progress (WIP), and Finished Goods inventory.
  • Conduct and supervise regular stock counts and stock audits.
  • Reconcile physical stock balances against ERP and accounting system records.
  • Investigate inventory variances and implement corrective actions.
  • Ensure inventory valuation complies with applicable accounting standards and internal policies.
  • Strengthen inventory controls to minimize losses, wastage, and stock inaccuracies.
  • Work closely with Stores and Production teams to improve inventory accuracy and operational efficiency.

Financial Reporting & Analysis

  • Prepare monthly factory financial reports and operational performance reviews.
  • Analyze factory profitability and cost performance and provide recommendations for improvement.
  • Monitor and control factory-related expenditure against approved budgets.
  • Support month-end closing activities and management accounting requirements.
  • Assist with preparation of forecasts, financial projections, and management reports.
  • Provide financial insights and performance analysis to support business decisions.

Budgeting & Cost Control

  • Monitor utility expenses, maintenance costs, consumable costs, and factory overheads.
  • Review budget performance and conduct budget-versus-actual variance analysis.
  • Identify cost reduction opportunities and support implementation of cost control initiatives.
  • Assist in annual budgeting and periodic forecasting exercises.
  • Support management with financial planning activities and operational cost improvement initiatives.

Compliance & Internal Controls

  • Ensure compliance with applicable tax regulations, accounting standards, company policies, and financial controls.
  • Maintain audit-ready financial records and supporting documentation at all times.
  • Strengthen internal controls relating to inventory, costing, purchasing, and factory operations.
  • Support internal and external audit requirements and ensure timely resolution of audit observations.
  • Monitor adherence to financial policies and governance requirements across factory operations.

Cross-Functional Business Support

  • Work closely with Production, Stores, Procurement, and Supply Chain teams to support operational efficiency.
  • Provide finance support for operational reviews and decision-making processes.
  • Partner with business teams to improve productivity, cost efficiency, and profitability.
  • Support ERP-driven process improvements and finance transformation initiatives.
  • Act as a finance business partner to factory management and operational leadership teams.

Candidate Profile

  • Degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related discipline.
  • Fully Qualified CIMA or ACCA is mandatory.
  • 2–5 years of experience in Factory Accounting, Manufacturing Finance, Cost Accounting, or Operational Finance.
  • Hands-on experience in production costing, inventory management, and variance analysis.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing operations and cost structures.
  • Experience working with ERP systems and integrated manufacturing environments.
  • Strong analytical, financial modelling, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management capabilities.
  • Ability to work independently while effectively supporting operational teams.
  • Experience within FMCG, Packaging, Manufacturing, or Industrial environments will be highly advantageous.
  • Strong commercial mindset with the ability to identify and drive operational improvements.
