Role Overview
We are seeking a results-driven and experienced General Manager / Manager – Business Development (Capital Equipment) to lead sales growth and market expansion across capital and utility equipment portfolios. The role focuses on driving topline performance, strengthening customer relationships, leading high-performing teams, and developing strategic business initiatives across industrial sectors.
Key Responsibilities

Drive topline growth through effective engagement with customers on technical and commercial aspects of capital and utility equipment solutions.

Lead, motivate, and manage the sales team while demonstrating strong leadership and people management capabilities.

Manage negotiations of sales contracts, pricing, and order closures to achieve business targets.

Develop and execute strategies to increase enquiry generation across product portfolios.

Liaise with international principals and partners on a regular basis and build strong, trust-based relationships.

Strengthen and optimize customer relationships post-order closure to ensure long-term retention and satisfaction.

Prepare and maintain timely MIS reports, order status updates, and market intelligence reports.

Organize customer forums, technical seminars, and product presentations to enhance market reach and visibility.

Conduct cold calls, identify new prospects, and continuously enhance product knowledge to effectively position solutions.

Analyze lost orders to identify gaps and implement corrective strategies to reduce repeat occurrences.

Identify and develop new markets, channels, and business associates.
Qualifications & Experience
Educational Qualifications
-
Degree or Diploma in Mechanical, Chemical, Environmental, or Electrical Engineering from a recognized university or institute in Sri Lanka.
Experience
-
Minimum 10–15 years of experience in capital equipment sales, preferably in utility equipment.

Proven industry exposure with strong connections to key decision-makers.

Prior experience in selling capital equipment in Sri Lanka and/or Maldives will be a strong advantage.
Preferred Skills / Other Qualifications

Strong skills in enquiry generation, order closure, and strategic business planning across industries.

Excellent market intelligence capabilities with the ability to analyze competitor strategies.

Strong communication skills in both local languages and English.

Proven abilities in negotiation, presentations, and stakeholder management.

Fast learner with strong adaptability to technical product portfolios.

Willingness to travel extensively across the island for business development activities.
