Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Group Accountant to oversee central accounting functions, group financial reporting, tax compliance, treasury operations, audit coordination, intercompany transactions, and financial controls across multiple group entities.

The selected candidate will be responsible for ensuring accurate group-wide financial data, timely management reporting, statutory compliance, clean reconciliations, effective working capital management, and strong support to the Group Financial Controller in budgeting, forecasting, and financial governance.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Reporting and Group Consolidation

  • Prepare and finalize financial statements for all group entities, including operating, non-operating, resort, and international holding entities.
  • Ensure financial statements are prepared in line with prescribed group formats, accounting standards, and reporting requirements.
  • Prepare monthly MIS reports, management accounts, balance sheets, cash flow statements, and variance analysis reports.
  • Ensure accurate bookkeeping and transaction recording across all assigned entities.
  • Oversee the preparation and posting of recurring and non-recurring journal entries.
  • Maintain and update the general ledger accurately and on time.
  • Prepare, review, and verify monthly balance sheet schedules.
  • Ensure balance sheet schedules are fully reconciled with financial statements and general ledger records.
  • Identify and resolve discrepancies between sub-ledgers, schedules, and the main general ledger.

Working Capital Management

  • Oversee the group accounts payable function and ensure vendor payments are properly authorized and processed on time.
  • Monitor accounts payable aging and ensure accurate supplier balances are maintained.
  • Oversee accounts receivable activities, including guest refunds, customer payment confirmations, and bank advance postings.
  • Monitor aging credit balances and support cash-flow optimization.
  • Reconcile and monitor intercompany transactions across group entities.
  • Manage intercompany recharges, salary transfers, cross-entity vendor payments, and management fees.
  • Ensure intercompany balances are accurate, supported, and cleared within agreed timelines.

Tax Compliance and Regulatory Reporting

  • Monitor local and international tax requirements to ensure full compliance across group entities.
  • Provide internal guidance on applicable tax rules and compliance requirements.
  • Ensure timely preparation, processing, payment tracking, and submission of statutory returns through RAMIS.
  • Handle VAT, SSCL, APIT/PAYE, WHT, and other applicable statutory submissions.
  • Coordinate with individual resorts to ensure accurate calculation and timely payment of Tourism Development Levy.
  • Manage withholding tax matters and tax clearances relating to foreign payments.
  • Support tax compliance requirements for overseas holding entities.
  • Maintain accurate tax workings, schedules, payment records, and supporting documentation.
  • Ensure all tax filings and statutory submissions are completed within required deadlines.

Treasury and Cash Management

  • Monitor daily bank balances across resorts and group entities.
  • Communicate daily liquidity positions and support effective cash-flow management.
  • Process, record, and authorize fund transfers across bank accounts.
  • Ensure timely funding and settlement of group loans, leasing facilities, and debt obligations.
  • Monitor monthly bank reconciliations for local and foreign operational accounts.
  • Maintain records of loan facilities, leasing arrangements, repayment schedules, and bank documentation.
  • Liaise with financial institutions on debt, facility, and treasury-related matters.
  • Support cash-flow forecasting and working capital planning.

Audit Coordination and Internal Controls

  • Act as a key liaison for external auditors during statutory audits.
  • Prepare audit schedules, audit files, reconciliations, and supporting documentation.
  • Ensure audit requirements are delivered accurately and within agreed timelines.
  • Support smooth completion of statutory audits across operating and non-operating entities.
  • Work with the Group Financial Controller to design, implement, and monitor internal control structures.
  • Strengthen internal controls across group and hotel-level finance operations.
  • Identify control gaps and support corrective actions to improve financial governance.
  • Maintain audit-ready documentation and accurate accounting records.

Strategic Support and Team Leadership

  • Assist the Group Financial Controller in preparing annual group budgets, forecasts, and financial projections.
  • Support financial analysis, planning, and reporting for strategic decision-making.
  • Mentor, guide, and support junior finance staff and property-level accountants.
  • Promote consistent accounting practices and standard operating procedures across entities.
  • Support process improvements in reporting, reconciliations, taxation, treasury, and internal controls.
  • Manage multiple entity timelines while ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely delivery.
  • Perform any other finance, accounting, reporting, tax, or treasury duties assigned by management.

Candidate Profile

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Fully or partly qualified in CA, ACCA, or CIMA.
  • Minimum 3 years of progressive hotel or hospitality accounting experience in an equivalent role is essential.
  • Strong experience in group accounting, financial reporting, reconciliations, and multi-entity accounting.
  • Deep understanding of IFRS, LKAS, and group consolidation methods.
  • Hands-on experience with automated tax portals, specifically RAMIS in Sri Lanka.
  • Strong knowledge of VAT, SSCL, APIT/PAYE, WHT, TDL, and related statutory compliance requirements.
  • Experience handling accounts payable, accounts receivable, intercompany transactions, and working capital reporting.
  • Experience in treasury operations, bank reconciliations, fund transfers, debt service, and loan or leasing schedules.
  • Experience coordinating statutory audits and preparing audit schedules.
  • Strong knowledge of internal controls, financial governance, and accounting documentation.
  • Proficiency in advanced Microsoft Excel is required.
  • Experience using enterprise accounting software or ERP systems is required.
  • Strong analytical, numerical, and problem-solving skills.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines across several entities.
  • Good communication and coordination skills.
  • Ability to work with property-level finance teams, auditors, financial institutions, and senior management.
  • Strong leadership capabilities with the ability to guide and develop junior finance staff.
