Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced and commercially driven Senior Manager – Sales to lead an assigned sales cluster, manage key international travel partners, drive revenue growth, and support the development of high-quality inbound travel products.

The selected candidate will be responsible for achieving annual sales budgets, maintaining strong relationships with tour operators and travel agencies, leading and developing the sales team, overseeing tour proposals and files, and ensuring that all client requirements are handled accurately and within agreed timelines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the assigned sales cluster and achieve individual, team, and annual revenue targets.
  • Develop and implement tactical sales strategies to acquire, retain, and grow tour operator and travel agency accounts.
  • Build and maintain excellent relationships with assigned international agents and business partners.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for assigned agents and manage correspondence professionally and efficiently.
  • Identify new business opportunities and maintain a structured follow-up process for inquiries and potential clients.
  • Develop new tour products, itineraries, proposals, and year-round travel programmes.
  • Prepare competitive costings, conduct rate comparisons, and recommend value-added options to improve conversions.
  • Negotiate hotel rates, room allotments, supplier terms, and other travel-related services.
  • Organize and manage familiarization tours for international agents and overseas product teams.
  • Conduct local and international sales visits, trade fairs, product presentations, and business development meetings when required.
  • Prepare detailed sales reports following client visits, trade fairs, and overseas business travel.
  • Monitor the performance of assigned agents and recommend actions to improve revenue and booking volumes.
  • Manage tour files accurately from inquiry and proposal stages through confirmation, operation, and settlement.
  • Ensure all reservations, bookings, costings, documentation, and operational requirements follow established SOPs.
  • Coordinate closely with Operations, Reservations, Transport, Finance, Hotels, Guides, and other suppliers to ensure smooth tour delivery.
  • Ensure confirmed tour files are invoiced, paid, documented, and operationally prepared before guest arrival.
  • Resolve guest complaints, client emergencies, and operational issues in collaboration with relevant teams.
  • Maintain accurate tour costs, booking records, reports, and system updates.
  • Ensure prompt responses to client inquiries and delivery of proposals within agreed turnaround times.

Team Leadership

  • Lead, coach, and guide team members to achieve individual and cluster performance goals.
    Conduct regular performance reviews and sales discussions with the team.
  • Delegate responsibilities effectively and monitor progress against deadlines.
  • Support employee development through coaching, training, and performance feedback.
  • Review leave, probation confirmations, and other team-related administrative requirements.
    Build a collaborative, accountable, and customer-focused team culture.

Candidate Profile

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a similar senior sales capacity within the inbound travel, tourism, or destination management industry.
  • Strong experience in managing tour operators, travel agencies, and international client accounts.
  • Proven ability to achieve revenue targets and manage sales budgets.
  • Sound knowledge of Sri Lankan destinations, hotels, excursions, tourism products, and travel operations.
  • Experience in preparing tour proposals, itineraries, costings, and quotations.
  • Good understanding of reservations, operations, marketing, and travel administration procedures.
  • Proficiency in ITOS or a similar travel management system is required.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage and develop a sales team independently.
  • Excellent command of English, both written and spoken.
  • Knowledge of an additional foreign language will be an advantage.
  • Strong presentation, interpersonal, public relations, and negotiation skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly PowerPoint, Word, and Excel.
  • Strong analytical, reporting, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple priorities, and consistently meet deadlines.
  • Self-motivated, commercially aware, and committed to delivering exceptional client service.
  • Willingness to travel locally and internationally when required.
  • High level of professionalism, confidentiality, and teamwork.
