DGM - Product development role


Key Accountabilities

Strategic Leadership & Decision-Making:

  • Drive the product development strategy in alignment with business objectives.
  • Evaluate the feasibility of new product developments and provide guidance to the BD team.
  • Ensure innovations align with market trends and customer expectations.

Operational & Process Management:

  • Oversee the assignment and execution of product development projects.
  • Ensure timely delivery of samples and specifications to the BD team.
  • Monitor production trials and mini-bulk feasibility studies, making data-driven decisions.
  • Work closely with internal and external stakeholders to resolve technical challenges.

Team Development & Performance Management:

  • Lead and mentor a team of managers, executives, and technical staff.
  • Identify training needs and facilitate skill development programs.
  • Drive a performance-driven culture through KPIs and structured evaluations.

Financial & Resource Management:

  • Prepare and manage the departments annual budget, ensuring cost control.
  • Optimize resource allocation to maintain efficiency and minimize waste.
  • Ensure all machinery and equipment are maintained to minimize downtime.

Compliance & Continuous Improvement:

  • Implement and monitor adherence to ISO and other regulatory standards.
  • Lead 6S culture within the department for process efficiency.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance product quality and development speed.

Technology & Systems Management:

  • Collaborate with the IT team to enhance digital systems for product development.
  • Ensure seamless integration of ERP systems to optimize workflow and documentation.

Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Act as the primary liaison between internal departments (Production, BD, Sourcing, QA, etc.).
  • Provide technical support to other plants and external stakeholders as needed.
  • Maintain strong relationships with key clients and suppliers.

Global Product Development Leadership:

  • Define and execute the global product development strategy aligned with the companys vision and customer needs.
  • Lead and manage across the group dispersed product development teams across different countries and foster collaboration, knowledge sharing, and standardization between development centers.
  • Work closely with other global functions, such as Innovation, Sales, Sourcing, and Digital to ensure alignment of ultimate objectives.
  • Manage the global product development budget, ensuring cost efficiency and ROI.
  • Conduct regular one-on-one meetings with global heads to ensure strategic alignment, address challenges, and drive innovation across regions.

Knowledge & Skills

Educational Qualifications:

  • BSc. Engineering - Materials / Textile Technology or equivalent.

Professional Experience:

  • 7-10 years of experience in product development, with at least 3-5 years in a leadership role.

Personal Characteristics / Behavior:

  • Strong leadership and team management abilities.
  • Strategic thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Technical expertise in textiles, materials, and product design.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Proficiency in ERP systems and product lifecycle management tools
