WE ARE HIRING: Development Manager

Location: Colombo

Experience: 7-10 years in a development leadership role

Package: Negotiable based on experience and skills


Key Responsibilities:

  • Take technical responsibility for the overall design and implementation of the applications.
  • Provide accurate estimates on development tasks and proactively communicate potential delays.
  • Develop and uphold a common set of programming conventions, practices and methodologies.
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to ensure integrations and solutions meet business requirements.
  • Manage the development processes to ensure compliance with industry best practices and the ISO27001 framework.
  • Work using a consistent agile development methodology ensuring the use of documented user stories, backlog reviews and progress tracking.
  • Lead larger projects in solution design activities and development technologies; provide the big-picture view.
  • Provide value-add in high severity incident reviews and drive support activities towards root cause analysis and preventative actions.
  • Drive down operational support costs via continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Manage the team to ensure delivery commitments are provided and met.
  • Set challenging goals for direct reports to support company vision.
  • Mentor junior staff and provide input into career planning for all team members.
  • Develop and promote a positive and collaborative way of working throughout the business unit.
  • Communicate frequently, honestly and positively with all employees.
  • Maintain a team work plan which is reviewed regularly with manager, peers and project managers.
  • Implement and maintain robust design, development and implementation processes.
  • Demonstrate code review best practices and ensure all software, systems and processes are adequately documented.
  • Ensure team safety by enforcing training, policy compliance, equipment handling, and providing adequate supervision.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 7 years of commercial experience in a development-related role in IT.
  • Experience managing large development teams and complex projects.
  • Proven ability in designing and developing layered applications and scalable APIs.
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent written communication.
  • Confidence in making critical decisions on technical implementations.
  • Strong understanding of business requirements and ability to translate them into technical solutions.
  • Experience conceptualizing integrated systems involving people, processes, and technology.
  • Proficiency with GIT-based source control systems and CI pipelines.
  • Ability to guide team members through complex development challenges.
  • Experience creating user stories and managing project backlogs.
  • Clear and effective communication across all organizational levels.
  • Hands-on experience with React.js, HTML, CSS, and responsive design.
  • Proficiency in Java with Spring Framework (MVC and Spring Boot) and PHP Laravel MVC Framework.
