WE ARE HIRING: Manager Claims

Work Location: Colombo, Sri Lanka

The Job Role

Handle a wide range of claims, including vessel entry, collisions, property damage, oil pollution, piracy, stowaways, medical assistance, crew injuries, and more.
Assign incidents to the appropriate claim handlers while meeting both customer and organizational requirements.
Build and maintain strong relationships with IG Clubs, local authorities, and other key stakeholders for seamless claim handling.
Lead and mentor the claims team, offering senior support during interactions with authorities and complex case management.
Independently manage Protection and Indemnity (P&I) cases following relevant processes and guidelines.
Analyze survey reports and provide expert feedback to customers.
Contribute to business development efforts in H&M and medical assistance, identifying local and international opportunities.
Manage budgeting, market analysis, and monthly reporting for department and board meetings.
Ensure full compliance with GAC policies and industry standards, manage debtor control, and mitigate risks.
Oversee resource planning, performance evaluations, and employee development.
Promote staff motivation, succession planning, and completion of IG PANDIQ Module 3 training.

Skills and Experience Required

Minimum IG PANDIQ certification.
A degree from the Institute of Chartered Ship Brokers or a qualified Lawyer in Shipping Practice.
Minimum 2 years of experience in claims management and 23 years in shipping operations.
Strong knowledge of legal aspects and statutory requirements in the shipping industry.
Familiarity with P&I Club guidelines and claims handling procedures.
Highly perceptive, determined, systematic, and rigorous.
Proactive and practical approach to problem-solving.
Fluent in English written and verbal.
Ability to perform under pressure with excellent multitasking and prioritization skills.
Willingness to be available after hours and respond to urgent calls.
Competent in using computers and software tools.
Basic knowledge of local and international shipping laws.
Experience dealing with senior officials such as consuls, embassy representatives, and other dignitaries.
