Role Overview

Our client is seeking a Cyber Security Specialist with hands-on operational experience to support and strengthen day-to-day security operations. The role suits a practical, delivery-focused professional confident in modern security tools, proactive in improving security frameworks, and comfortable working independently while remaining closely involved in technical security operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor, triage, and investigate security alerts, logs, and suspicious activity across endpoints, email, cloud platforms, and systems

  • Maintain and improve security configurations, support incident response, and contribute to post-incident reviews

  • Review and maintain cybersecurity documentation including playbooks, SOPs, runbooks, and policies

  • Assess privileged access, permissions, and central accounts, identify control gaps, and recommend improvements

  • Support internal and external audits and contribute to Cyber Essentials requirements

  • Advise on security best practices and collaborate with IT and business teams to strengthen the cybersecurity framework

Qualifications & Experience

Educational Qualifications

  • Degree in Cybersecurity, IT, Computer Science, or a related field

Experience

  • 3–5 years of experience in cybersecurity or security operations roles

  • Hands-on experience investigating alerts, reviewing logs, validating security configurations

  • Experience working with endpoint and firewall tools such as Bitdefender and Sophos

Technical Skills

  • Practical knowledge of identity and access management

  • Cloud security experience (e.g. Microsoft 365 / Azure)

  • Endpoint and email security

  • Experience with security documentation, SOPs, and Cyber Essentials or similar frameworks

  • Familiarity with SIEM, EDR, SaaS security tools, vulnerability management, and patching processes will be an advantage

Skills & Competencies

  • Proactive, detail-oriented, and practical approach to security

  • Strong documentation and communication skills

  • Confidence to constructively improve existing security practices
