Role Overview

We are seeking a skilled and technically strong RPG Engineer / Lead RPG Engineer with experience in Card Management Systems and microservices architecture.

The selected candidate will play a key role in maintaining and modernizing legacy RPG-based systems while contributing to the development of scalable microservices that support card operations, payment systems, transaction processing, card issuance, and lifecycle management.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and maintain applications using IBM i / AS400 RPG in a card-centric environment.
• Work on the integration and enhancement of Card Management Systems.
• Support card transaction processing, card issuance, card maintenance, and lifecycle management activities.
• Develop and support microservices-based APIs and services for card operations.
• Participate in modernization initiatives, including migration of selected functions from RPG to Java or microservices.
• Collaborate with Product, QA, DevOps, Infrastructure, and other cross-functional teams.
• Support feature delivery, incident resolution, and system improvement initiatives.
• Analyze system performance and troubleshoot technical issues.
• Ensure platform stability, availability, performance, and security.
• Create and maintain technical documentation, design specifications, and user manuals.
• Follow secure coding practices and ensure compliance with relevant standards such as PCI-DSS.
• Support integration with relational databases and enterprise systems.
• Work with RESTful APIs, JSON, XML, and system integration protocols.
• Participate in code reviews and support knowledge sharing within the development team.
• Assist junior developers when required and contribute to improving development standards.
• Perform any other software engineering, system support, or modernization-related duties assigned by management.

Candidate Profile

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
• Minimum 4+ years of professional experience in software development.
• Hands-on expertise in RPG IV / ILE RPG on the IBM i / AS400 platform.
• Experience with Card Management Systems such as VisionPLUS, CMS by FSS, Base24, or other proprietary card platforms.
• Proficiency in developing and integrating microservices.
• Experience with Java / Spring Boot will be preferred.
• Good understanding of ISO 8583 message formats and card transaction workflows.
• Experience working with relational databases such as DB2, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, or similar databases.
• Familiarity with RESTful APIs, JSON, XML, and system integration protocols.
• Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to work in a high-availability environment.
• Good understanding of secure coding practices and compliance standards.
• Ability to troubleshoot production issues and support critical system operations.
• Strong analytical and technical documentation skills.
• Good communication and collaboration skills.
• Ability to work effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Professional, accountable, detail-oriented, and committed to delivering reliable software solutions.

Preferred Skills

• Experience in the banking, fintech, cards, or payments industry.
• Exposure to DevOps practices, CI/CD tools, and containerized environments such as Docker and Kubernetes.
• Familiarity with message queues such as Kafka or RabbitMQ.
• Experience using version control tools such as Git.
• Experience using ticketing or service management tools such as JIRA or ServiceNow.
• Knowledge of compliance standards such as PCI-DSS and GDPR.
• Ability to mentor junior developers and participate in code reviews.
• Experience in legacy system modernization or RPG-to-microservices migration will be an advantage.
