Role Overview
We are seeking a highly experienced and commercially astute Assistant General Manager – Finance to play a strategic leadership role within the Finance function of a leading insurance and financial services organization. Reporting directly to the CFO, the successful candidate will act as a key business partner in driving financial strategy, governance, capital management, regulatory compliance, performance management, and finance transformation initiatives. This role requires a senior finance leader with strong exposure to financial reporting, business planning, actuarial-finance integration, capital optimization, treasury management, and stakeholder engagement. The ideal candidate will possess the expertise and leadership capability to act as a credible deputy to the CFO while supporting long-term organizational growth and financial sustainability.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Strategy & Business Partnering
- Partner with the CFO in formulating and executing the organization's financial strategy.
- Translate corporate and business objectives into financial plans, targets, and measurable outcomes.
- Provide senior management with strategic financial and commercial insights to support key business decisions.
- Evaluate profitability across products, customer segments, distribution channels, and strategic initiatives.
- Support mergers, acquisitions, partnerships, joint ventures, and new business opportunities from a financial perspective.
- Provide constructive challenge and financial guidance to business leaders on major investment and growth decisions.
- Support corporate strategy execution through effective financial planning and resource allocation.
Financial Reporting & Regulatory Compliance
- Provide leadership and oversight for monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting.
- Ensure compliance with IFRS 17, IFRS 9, and all applicable regulatory and statutory requirements.
- Manage the preparation and submission of management reports, Board reports, and regulatory reporting requirements.
- Lead interactions with external auditors, regulatory authorities, and other key stakeholders.
- Ensure timely completion of audits and effective closure of audit recommendations.
- Maintain strong accounting policies, reporting frameworks, governance standards, and internal controls.
- Ensure financial reporting accuracy, transparency, and integrity across the organization.
Capital Management, Solvency & Reinsurance
- Oversee capital adequacy monitoring and compliance with regulatory solvency requirements.
- Support the CFO in developing capital optimization and capital allocation strategies.
- Lead financial analysis related to dividend capacity and capital deployment decisions.
- Evaluate the financial, profitability, and capital implications of reinsurance arrangements.
- Lead and support enterprise stress testing, sensitivity analysis, and financial scenario modelling activities.
- Provide recommendations to strengthen financial resilience and capital efficiency.
Actuarial & Finance Integration
- Work closely with Actuarial teams to support IFRS 17 measurement, reporting, and implementation activities.
- Support product profitability reviews, pricing evaluations, assumption reviews, and experience investigations.
- Provide leadership in embedded value analysis and other actuarial-finance integration initiatives.
- Ensure consistency and reconciliation between actuarial outputs and financial reporting.
- Assess financial implications of actuarial assumptions and management actions.
- Strengthen collaboration between Finance, Actuarial, Risk, and Business functions.
Planning, Budgeting & Performance Management
- Lead annual budgeting, forecasting, and long-range financial planning processes.
- Drive enterprise-wide performance management initiatives.
- Establish, monitor, and evaluate financial and operational KPIs.
- Provide forward-looking insights, performance analysis, and recommendations to management.
- Identify emerging performance issues and implement corrective action plans.
- Drive productivity improvement, cost optimization, and profitability enhancement initiatives.
- Support sustainable business growth through disciplined financial planning and analysis.
Investment, Treasury & Asset-Liability Management
- Partner with Investment and Actuarial teams on asset-liability management strategies.
- Provide financial oversight of investment performance and investment accounting activities.
- Oversee treasury operations, liquidity management, and cash flow forecasting.
- Evaluate the profitability, financial, and capital implications of investment strategies.
- Support portfolio optimization and investment decision-making processes.
- Ensure appropriate financial controls are maintained across treasury and investment functions.
Governance, Board & Executive Support
- Support the CFO in presenting financial matters to the Board and Executive Management.
- Prepare and review Board papers, committee papers, and strategic financial presentations.
- Support Audit, Risk, Investment, and other Board and management committees.
- Provide independent financial insights and strategic recommendations to senior stakeholders.
- Strengthen governance frameworks, risk management processes, and internal controls.
- Act as a trusted advisor on financial matters to leadership teams across the business.
Finance Transformation & Digitalisation
- Lead finance transformation initiatives aimed at improving operational efficiency and effectiveness.
- Drive automation, analytics, reporting enhancements, and digitalization projects across the Finance function.
- Improve Finance operating models and organizational capability.
- Strengthen finance data governance, management information systems, and reporting capabilities.
- Champion continuous improvement programs and innovation across finance operations.
- Promote the adoption of advanced analytics and technology-enabled decision-making.
Leadership & Talent Development
- Provide leadership across assigned Finance functions and teams.
- Build a strong succession pipeline and strengthen organizational capability within Finance.
- Coach, mentor, and develop Finance Managers and finance professionals.
- Strengthen technical accounting, commercial, analytical, and business partnering capabilities.
- Drive a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation, and performance excellence.
- Represent the Finance function in executive forums and cross-functional initiatives when required.
Candidate Profile
- Professional qualification in CA, ACCA, CIMA, or an equivalent qualification is mandatory.
- A Degree and/or Postgraduate qualification in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related discipline will be advantageous.
- Minimum 14 years of relevant Finance experience.
- Minimum 3 years at Senior Manager level or equivalent.
- Strong experience across Financial Reporting, FP&A, Budgeting, Treasury, Financial Controls, and Business Partnering.
- Demonstrated experience providing financial leadership and input into strategic business decisions.
- Experience within a regulated financial services environment is strongly preferred.
- Experience within the insurance sector, particularly Life Insurance, will be highly advantageous.
- Strong exposure to IFRS 17, IFRS 9, capital management, solvency monitoring, and insurance financial reporting.
- Previous Board or Committee reporting exposure will be an added advantage.
- Strong financial, technical, and commercial acumen.
- Ability to operate as a credible deputy to the CFO and lead complex financial initiatives independently.
- Excellent executive-level communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management capabilities.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to influence senior stakeholders and constructively challenge business decisions.
- Proven leadership capability with experience managing and developing high-performing teams.
- Experience leading transformation, automation, and organizational change initiatives.
- Strong commitment to governance, integrity, professionalism, and accountability.
- Preferred age: 40 years and above.
