Role Overview 

We are seeking a detail-oriented Intermediate Accountant to support Australian tax and compliance functions for a growing portfolio of business clients. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing tax returns, BAS, IAS, financial statements, reconciliations, and compliance documentation while maintaining high levels of accuracy and meeting internal deadlines. This role offers an excellent opportunity for accounting professionals looking to develop their Australian tax expertise and progress toward a Senior Accountant career path. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare BAS, IAS, and PAYG workpapers for review with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Prepare individual, company, and trust tax returns to review stage.
  • Prepare year-end financial statements and account reconciliations.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and audit-ready workpapers.
  • Manage workflow tasks using practice management software and ensure jobs progress efficiently.
  • Meet internal deadlines and proactively communicate potential risks or delays.
  • Maintain accurate daily timesheets and job records.
  • Conduct thorough self-reviews before submitting work for review.
  • Act on reviewer feedback and continuously improve work quality and efficiency.
  • Support compliance requirements while maintaining high professional standards.

Candidate Profile

  • 2–4 years of experience preparing Australian tax and compliance work within a public practice environment.
  • Strong knowledge of BAS, IAS, GST, PAYG, Individual Tax Returns, Company Tax Returns, and Trust Tax Returns.
  • Understanding of Australian tax compliance requirements and Division 7A fundamentals.
  • Experience preparing financial statements and reconciliations.
  • Strong attention to detail with a commitment to producing accurate, high-quality work.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and maintain workflow discipline.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Experience with Xero and practice management software such as XPM or similar platforms.
  • Strong self-review and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with remote teams.
  • Willingness to work aligned with Australian business hours.
