Role Overview
We are seeking a technically competent and detail-oriented Accountant to join a growing UK Accounting and Tax team. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing UK bookkeeping records, VAT returns, statutory accounts, Corporation Tax computations, Self-Assessment returns, and management accounts while ensuring compliance with UK accounting standards, tax regulations, quality requirements, and client deadlines. This role is ideal for a qualified accounting professional who can work independently, manage multiple assignments effectively, and deliver high-quality accounting and taxation services within a UK-focused accounting environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Review bookkeeping records and ensure all transactions are accurately recorded, classified, and reconciled.
- Prepare VAT returns together with the required supporting reconciliations.
- Prepare statutory accounts in accordance with FRS 102 and FRS 105.
- Prepare Corporation Tax computations and CT600 returns.
- Prepare Self-Assessment tax returns and supporting calculations.
- Prepare and review monthly and quarterly management accounts.
- Complete balance sheet reconciliations and investigate unusual, aged, or outstanding balances.
- Identify missing information and raise clear and relevant queries with clients.
- Maintain complete, accurate, and properly referenced working papers.
- Resolve internal review points promptly while maintaining appropriate supporting documentation.
- Liaise with clients and internal stakeholders regarding accounting and taxation matters.
- Manage assigned work efficiently and ensure all deliverables are completed within agreed deadlines.
- Ensure compliance with UK accounting standards, tax legislation, and internal quality procedures.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of changes in UK accounting and tax regulations.
- Provide support and guidance to junior team members when technical assistance is required.
- Contribute to process improvements and operational efficiencies within the accounting function.
Candidate Profile
- Fully qualified ACCA, ACA, CIMA, or an equivalent recognized professional accounting qualification.
- Relevant practical experience within a UK Accountancy Practice or outsourced accounting environment will be preferred.
- Strong experience reviewing bookkeeping records and reconciliations.
- Hands-on experience preparing VAT returns and supporting schedules.
- Practical experience preparing statutory accounts under FRS 102 and FRS 105.
- Experience preparing Corporation Tax computations and CT600 returns.
- Experience preparing Self-Assessment tax returns and supporting calculations.
- Experience preparing and reviewing management accounts.
- Strong knowledge of UK accounting principles and tax compliance requirements.
- Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently while managing competing deadlines and priorities.
- Experience using Xero, QuickBooks Online, Sage, IRIS, TaxCalc, or similar accounting software will be an advantage.
- Strong organizational skills and commitment to accuracy and quality.
