Role Overview

We are looking for a Head of Legal to provide strategic legal leadership and oversight across the organization. This role is responsible for managing legal risk, overseeing litigation, ensuring regulatory compliance, and providing expert legal counsel to the Board and senior management. The position plays a critical role in aligning legal strategy with business objectives while upholding the highest standards of integrity and professional ethics.

Key Responsibilities

Legal Risk Management & Litigation

  • Analyze and identify legal risks and implications of business transactions, providing strategic guidance to management.

  • Lead and manage all litigation matters, including filings before the High Court, Supreme Court, District Court, and Arbitration Centers.

  • Take timely and accurate legal action on all matters affecting the organization.

  • Oversee settlement negotiations and dispute resolution processes.

Strategic Leadership

  • Actively participate in policy formulation and implementation.

  • Provide expert legal counsel to the Board and senior management.

  • Drive legal strategy aligned with overall business objectives.

  • Lead, mentor, and develop the legal team.

Qualifications & Experience

Professional Qualifications

  • Qualified Attorney-at-Law with a valid practicing certificate.

  • Notarial work experience with active practice.

Experience

  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive legal experience in a similar capacity within the Financial Services or Banking industry.

  • Proven track record in managing complex legal matters and litigation.

Skills & Competencies

  • In-depth knowledge of financial sector regulations and Central Bank of Sri Lanka requirements.

  • Strong leadership abilities with proven team management experience.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Strategic thinker with strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.

  • Ability to work collaboratively across all levels of the organization.

  • High integrity and strong professional ethics.
