Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced and strategically driven General Manager – Operations to lead end-to-end operational, export, financial, compliance, information technology, supply chain, logistics, and human resources functions within a pharmaceutical export organization.

The selected candidate will be responsible for ensuring operational excellence, regulatory compliance, financial integrity, supply continuity, effective governance, and sustainable business growth across international markets.

Key Responsibilities

Business and Commercial Management

  • Negotiate commercial terms with manufacturers, suppliers, and strategic partners.
  • Facilitate commercial agreements and support the successful closure of pharmaceutical export deals.
  • Support revenue growth through effective coordination with sales, manufacturing, and international business partners.
  • Evaluate operational and commercial risks associated with new markets, customers, and partnerships.
  • Recommend commercially viable solutions that support long-term business growth.

Export Operations and Regulatory Compliance

  • Oversee end-to-end pharmaceutical export operations from order receipt through final delivery.
  • Ensure compliance with international trade laws, pharmaceutical regulations, DGFT requirements, and export documentation standards.
  • Coordinate with production, quality assurance, logistics, supply chain, finance, and sales teams.
  • Ensure shipments are delivered on time and in accordance with regulatory and customer requirements.
  • Review commercial invoices, packing lists, certificates, shipping documents, customs records, and other export documentation.
  • Resolve customs delays, documentation discrepancies, shipment issues, and international partner disputes.
  • Monitor changes in export regulations and implement required process improvements.
  • Maintain accurate records for audits, inspections, and regulatory reviews.

Leadership and Team Management

  • Lead and develop cross-functional teams across operations, exports, logistics, supply chain, IT, finance, and HR.
  • Establish clear departmental goals, KPIs, accountability measures, and performance standards.
  • Monitor team performance and implement corrective actions where required.
  • Build a collaborative, high-performance, and results-oriented working culture.
  • Support succession planning, leadership development, and workforce capability building.
  • Ensure teams remain aligned with organizational objectives and business priorities.

Financial, Legal and Governance Oversight

  • Oversee operational budgets, cost control, resource allocation, and financial performance.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements, including the Companies Act, ROC requirements, labour laws, GST, TDS, and income tax regulations.
  • Coordinate the finalization of accounts with internal and external auditors.
  • Support tax planning and ensure timely filing of statutory returns.
  • Establish and monitor strong internal controls to prevent fraud and maintain financial integrity.
  • Review operational and financial risks and implement suitable mitigation measures.
  • Present operational and financial performance reports to senior leadership.
  • Recommend strategic improvements based on financial and operational analysis.

Information Technology Operations

  • Oversee IT infrastructure, applications, systems, service delivery, and support operations.
  • Align IT strategy with business goals and operational requirements.
  • Lead internal IT teams and manage external vendors, contracts, SLAs, and performance metrics.
  • Ensure effective IT governance, cybersecurity, access control, risk management, and regulatory compliance.
  • Drive automation, digital transformation, system upgrades, and process-improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure business continuity, data protection, system reliability, and disaster-recovery readiness.
  • Identify technology solutions that improve efficiency, visibility, control, and cost effectiveness.

PPIC, Supply Chain and Logistics

  • Lead Production Planning and Inventory Control activities for finished pharmaceutical products.
  • Oversee demand forecasting, production planning, material planning, and capacity optimization.
  • Coordinate with manufacturing, quality assurance, procurement, sales, and finance teams.
  • Ensure uninterrupted product availability and timely fulfilment of customer orders.
  • Manage warehousing, transportation, distribution, and delivery of finished pharmaceutical products.
  • Drive inventory optimization, working-capital efficiency, cost reduction, and waste minimization.
  • Monitor stock levels, ageing inventory, order fulfilment, capacity utilization, and delivery performance.
  • Manage logistics partners, transport providers, warehouses, and other external vendors.
  • Implement process improvements across planning, warehousing, distribution, and supply-chain operations.

Human Resources and Administration

  • Oversee recruitment, onboarding, performance management, compensation, employee relations, and HR compliance.
  • Implement HR policies, governance frameworks, and labour-law requirements.
  • Lead workforce planning, succession planning, learning, and leadership-development initiatives.
  • Support organizational change, employee engagement, and culture-development programs.
  • Ensure accurate management of payroll, attendance, leave, employee records, and statutory documentation.
  • Maintain complete documentation across the employee lifecycle, performance, policies, payroll, and compliance.
  • Advise senior leadership on workforce risks, organizational requirements, and people strategies.

Candidate Profile

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Operations Management, Supply Chain, Finance, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or a related field.
  • Master's degree, MBA, or relevant professional qualification will be an advantage.
  • Extensive senior-management experience in operations within the pharmaceutical manufacturing, pharmaceutical export, healthcare, or regulated manufacturing sector.
  • Strong knowledge of pharmaceutical export regulations, DGFT requirements, customs procedures, and international trade documentation.
  • Proven experience leading end-to-end export, supply chain, logistics, PPIC, finance, IT, and administrative functions.
  • Strong understanding of statutory requirements, corporate governance, GST, TDS, income tax, ROC compliance, and labour laws.
  • Experience in budgeting, cost control, internal controls, audit coordination, and financial reporting.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage demand forecasting, production planning, inventory, warehousing, and distribution.
  • Experience managing IT operations, vendors, SLAs, cybersecurity, automation, and business systems.
  • Strong leadership experience managing large, cross-functional teams.
  • Proven ability to improve operational efficiency, reduce costs, and strengthen process controls.
  • Excellent commercial negotiation, stakeholder-management, and decision-making abilities.
  • Strong analytical, risk-management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage complex operations across multiple functions and international markets.
