Role Overview
We are seeking an accurate, well-organized, and internationally exposed Accountant to manage finance operations, payroll, accounting records, financial governance, and reporting requirements for a Sri Lankan office operating within an international business environment.
The selected candidate will initially be responsible for handling local Sri Lankan transactions, payroll, compliance, and financial governance, while also supporting future finance requirements relating to a planned export-oriented manufacturing operation in Sri Lanka.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day accounting activities and financial transactions for the Sri Lankan office.
- Record, review, and maintain accurate accounting entries, ledgers, journals, and supporting documents.
- Handle a small volume of local Sri Lankan financial transactions accurately and on time.
- Manage payroll processing and ensure accurate employee salary-related records.
- Ensure payroll, statutory payments, and related documentation are maintained properly.
- Support financial governance, internal controls, and compliance for the Sri Lankan office.
- Prepare monthly financial reports, reconciliations, schedules, and management information.
- Maintain proper documentation for expenses, invoices, payments, receipts, payroll, and tax-related records.
- Prepare and review bank reconciliations, supplier reconciliations, and general ledger reconciliations.
- Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure accurate financial reporting.
- Support Sri Lankan accounting, tax, payroll, and statutory compliance requirements.
- Work with UK finance teams and support reporting aligned with international accounting expectations.
- Maintain accounting records in computerized finance systems such as SAP, QuickBooks, or similar platforms.
- Support financial system updates, data accuracy, and process improvements.
- Assist in budgeting, cost tracking, cash flow monitoring, and financial planning when required.
- Support audits, financial reviews, and compliance checks by preparing required schedules and documents.
- Assist in developing finance processes and controls for a future manufacturing site in Sri Lanka.
- Support export-oriented manufacturing finance requirements as the business expands.
- Ensure all financial activities are completed accurately, transparently, and within required timelines.
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism when handling financial and payroll information.
- Perform any other finance, accounting, payroll, or reporting duties assigned by management.
Candidate Profile
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Professional qualification or part qualification in CA, ACCA, CIMA, AAT, or an equivalent finance qualification will be an advantage.
- Minimum 5 to 7 years of experience in accounting, finance, payroll, or financial operations.
- Experience working with both Sri Lankan and UK accounting or financial systems will be strongly preferred.
- Hands-on experience using SAP is highly preferred.
- Experience with QuickBooks and other computerized finance systems will be an advantage.
- Previous experience working in a large organization will be preferred.
- Experience in an international business environment will be a strong advantage.
- Experience in a manufacturing or export-oriented company will be highly preferred.
- Good understanding of accounting principles, reconciliations, payroll, financial controls, and statutory requirements.
- Ability to handle local accounting operations while coordinating with overseas finance teams.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
- Good command of English, both written and spoken.
- Strong communication and coordination skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with local and international teams.
