About the Role

Our client is seeking a proactive and independent Data Protection Officer (DPO) to lead and strengthen data protection and privacy compliance initiatives across a diversified group of businesses. This is a newly established role responsible for ensuring compliance with the Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA) while promoting a strong data protection culture throughout the organization.

The ideal candidate will possess practical, hands-on experience in data protection, privacy compliance, and governance. This role requires a confident professional who can work independently, engage effectively with senior stakeholders, and drive compliance initiatives across multiple business sectors.

Key Responsibilities

• Act as the primary point of contact for all matters relating to data protection and privacy across the Group.
• Liaise with regulators, public authorities, and internal stakeholders on data protection-related matters.
• Ensure policies, procedures, and practices comply with the requirements of the Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA).
• Drive the consistent implementation of data protection and privacy standards across all business units.
• Design, develop, and deliver data protection and privacy awareness programmes and training initiatives.
• Conduct data protection audits and compliance reviews to identify risks and improvement opportunities.
• Recommend and support the implementation of appropriate data protection controls, technologies, and security measures.
• Monitor emerging data protection regulations, industry trends, and legislative developments, ensuring ongoing compliance.
• Maintain required records, documentation, and compliance registers in line with regulatory obligations.
• Provide guidance and support to business units in managing privacy risks and data protection requirements.
• Promote a culture of privacy, accountability, and responsible data handling across the organization.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Law, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in a similar data protection, privacy, compliance, or governance role.
• Demonstrated hands-on experience in interpreting and applying data protection legislation and regulatory requirements.
• Strong understanding of privacy principles, data governance, and compliance frameworks.
• Ability to work independently and manage responsibilities with minimal supervision.
• Experience engaging with stakeholders across multiple business functions and locations.
• Proven ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with the highest level of integrity and discretion.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal and stakeholder management capabilities.
• High attention to detail with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to influence senior leaders and drive organization-wide compliance initiatives.

Preferred Qualifications

• Exposure to PDPA compliance programmes, privacy frameworks, or data governance initiatives.
• Professional certifications related to privacy, governance, compliance, risk management, or information security will be an added advantage.
• Experience working within a diversified group of companies or complex corporate environment.
