About the job New Building (NB) Superintendent
We are looking for an experienced & proactive New Building Superintendent to join an established shipowner in overseeing container vessel newbuild projects at major Asian shipyards. This is a hands-on, site-based role, ideal for a strong marine engineer who enjoys being close to the build, resolving technical issues on the ground, and acting as the owners representative throughout construction, sea trials, and delivery.
You will play a key role in strengthening the engineering capability of the newbuilding team, which is well-supported by naval architecture expertise.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the Owners on-site representative for container vessel newbuilding projects at shipyards
- Oversee construction, outfitting, inspections, testing, sea trials, and final delivery
- Ensure compliance with:
- Approved designs and technical specifications
- Classification society rules
- IMO conventions and statutory requirements
- Supervise and coordinate on-site supervision teams, ensuring build quality and schedule adherence
- Review, approve, and manage:
- Inspection item lists and QC checklists (hull, machinery, outfitting)
- Type examination and testing plans
- NDT plans in accordance with Class rules
- Monitor shipbuilding progress, identify risks, and proactively resolve technical or quality issues
- Represent the owner in technical, quality, and progress meetings with shipyards and stakeholders
- Support sea trials, final inspections, and handover documentation
- Travel extensively to shipyards, primarily in China and Korea
Requirements
- Proven container vessel newbuilding experience is mandatory
- Minimum 2 years of on-site newbuild supervision is preferred
- Strong engineering background, with solid understanding of:
- Machinery systems; Shipbuilding sequences and block construction & pre-outfitting and inspection processes
- Experience managing shipyard projects in China; Korea exposure is a strong advantage
- Strong communication skills in English (written and spoken)
- Mandarin proficiency is an advantage, but not essential
- Willing and able to travel frequently as required by the project schedule
