About the job Research Analyst (Tanker)
We are looking for a commercially minded Tanker Research Analyst to join an established shipowning group with a strong presence in global tanker markets. The role sits at the intersection of market intelligence and commercial decision-making, providing forward-looking analysis and market views that directly support chartering, asset, and strategic planning activities. The successful candidate will play a key role in interpreting complex market dynamics and translating them into clear, actionable insights for senior stakeholders. The ideal candidate should have 3–4 years of experience in shipping research, tanker market analysis, or commodity analytics.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct in-depth analysis of global tanker markets, including supply–demand balances, freight rate dynamics, and fleet developments
- Develop and maintain short-, medium-, and long-term tanker market forecasts, including scenario and sensitivity analysis
- Monitor oil trade flows, macroeconomic indicators, and geopolitical developments, assessing their impact on tanker demand and rates
- Act as a key analytical partner to commercial and chartering teams, providing timely market intelligence to support fixing and deployment decisions
- Prepare market reports, presentations, and ad-hoc analyses for senior management and internal stakeholders
- Track regulatory and environmental developments affecting tanker markets and fleet economics
- Support continuous improvement of analytical tools, models, and methodologies to strengthen forecasting accuracy and insight generation
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in Maritime Studies, Economics, Finance, Engineering, or a related analytical discipline
- 3–4 years of relevant experience in tanker shipping research, shipping analytics, commodity research, or energy market analysis
- Solid understanding of tanker market fundamentals, including supply–demand dynamics, freight rate formation, and global oil trade flows
- Strong quantitative and analytical skills, with the ability to build, interpret, and maintain market models and forecasts
- High proficiency in Excel and data analysis tools; experience with Power BI, Python, or similar tools is an advantage
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present market views confidently to non-technical stakeholders
