We are looking for an experienced Operations Manager for a boutique sized dry bulk shipowner that is based in Singapore. The Operations Manager will oversee the daily commercial and operational performance of the company's owned dry bulk vessels and chartered-in fleet. This role is responsible for maximizing voyage profitability, ensuring efficient vessel operations, and supporting the company's growth strategy as it expands its chartering and trading activities.


Responsibilities

Commercial & Strategic Oversight

  • Oversee commercial operations of owned and chartered-in dry bulk vessels to ensure optimal fleet performance.
  • Drive voyage profitability through proactive monitoring of P&L, costs, and performance metrics.
  • Provide commercial input for chartering decisions, including voyage estimates, risk assessment, and fixture review.
  • Identify and pursue opportunities to improve yield, utilization, and operational efficiency.
  • Support business expansion through evaluation and onboarding of chartered-in vessels.

Operational Management

  • Supervise the execution of voyages, ensuring smooth coordination across masters, charterers, and agents.
  • Review and approve voyage instructions, laytime statements, and demurrage/despatch settlements.
  • Oversee bunker procurement strategy, port cost optimization, and vendor performance.
  • Anticipate and resolve voyage-related issues to minimize delays and claims exposure.

Market Intelligence & Reporting

  • Monitor freight market trends, voyage performance data, and competitor activity.
  • Prepare regular commercial and operational reports for management review.
  • Contribute insights to strategic planning and fleet deployment decisions.

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in Maritime Studies, Shipping, Logistics, or a related field.
  • Minimum 8-10 years experience in dry bulk commercial operations, preferably with both owned and chartered-in vessels.
  • Strong understanding of charter party terms, voyage P&L, and claims handling.
  • Proven track record of optimizing voyage performance and operational efficiency.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills with a proactive, hands-on approach.
  • Proficient in MS Office and voyage management systems (e.g., IMOS, Veson, or similar).
