About the job Senior Category Buyer
We are looking for a highly competent and detail-oriented Senior Category Buyer for one of our global shipping clients. Reporting to the Head of Supply Chain, this role plays a pivotal part in delivering procurement excellence and driving cost efficiency across the organization. The successful candidate will bring 8 - 10 years of relevant experience, along with a proven ability to manage category strategies, optimize vendor relationships, and lead contract and tender processes. Strong planning, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement skills are essential.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Identify and drive cost reduction and procurement optimization opportunities through detailed spend analysis, benchmarking, and close collaboration with internal stakeholders.
- Lead negotiations for new and expiring contracts to ensure alignment with procurement strategies (e.g., cost efficiency, operational simplicity, improved stakeholder experience).
- Ensure effective contract rollout and compliance across all business functions and ensure usage consistency among stakeholders.
- Proactively identify value creation opportunities with both existing and potential suppliers.
- Regularly review the vendor base to consolidate purchasing power and enhance economies of scale.
- Maintain accurate contract pricing in internal systems and ensure they are properly applied.
- Conduct annual vendor performance reviews to ensure quality, reliability, and value delivery.
- Ensure all vendors and contractors meet company procurement standards, including those related to safety, ethical sourcing, and responsible procurement practices.
- Provide commercial and procurement advice to support internal teams during tendering or business development activities.
- Offer guidance and training to team members on category strategies, supplier management, and procurement operations.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum of 8-10 years experience in a similar procurement or category management role, supported by relevant tertiary qualifications.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, with strong expertise in Microsoft Excel for data analysis and reporting.
- Demonstrated analytical thinking and the ability to derive actionable insights from data.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively across all levels of the organization.
- Strong planning and organizational abilities, with a structured and proactive work style.
- Proven team player with leadership potential and the ability to collaborate effectively across cross-functional teams.
