We are looking for an experienced and hands-on Marine Superintendent / Senior Marine Superintendent to join an established international ship owning/ ship management organisation. The role is responsible for overseeing the safe, compliant, and efficient marine operations of a chemical tanker fleet, with strong emphasis on safety, cargo operations, regulatory compliance, and crew competency.

Key Responsibilities

Marine Operations, Safety & Compliance

  • Monitor and review onboard marine and cargo operations to ensure compliance with company procedures, industry standards, and international regulations.
  • Review and provide guidance on cargo operation plans, tank cleaning plans, and Risk Assessments (RA) for shipboard activities.
  • Review passage plans, navigational practices, and bridge procedures, providing feedback and corrective guidance where required.
  • Ensure full compliance with the Safety Management System (SMS) and propose improvements to operational guidelines and procedures.

Inspections, Incidents & Performance Oversight

  • Prepare and support vessels for vetting inspections, Port State Control (PSC), and other external audits.
  • Lead or support incident and near-miss investigations, conduct root cause analysis (RCA), and monitor corrective and preventive actions.
  • Monitor vessel performance, including navigation standards, cargo operations, fuel efficiency, and environmental compliance, recommending improvement measures as necessary.
  • Review the condition and reliability of critical marine and safety equipment and verify PMS compliance.

Crew Competency & Emergency Preparedness

  • Assess onboard crew competency and ensure compliance with operational and safety requirements.
  • Conduct briefings and training related to cargo handling, safety management, and emergency response procedures.
  • Support and evaluate shipboard emergency drills, providing recommendations to strengthen emergency preparedness.

Requirements

  • Seagoing experience on chemical tankers as:
    • Master (Captain) – minimum 3 years, OR
    • Chief Mate – minimum 3 years
  • Experience on Panamax-size vessels or larger
  • Certificate of Competency (COC): Class 1 – Master Mariner
  • Formal marine education from a recognised maritime academy
  • Strong hands-on knowledge of chemical tanker operations, cargo handling, tank cleaning, and marine safety practices
  • Sound understanding of international maritime regulations, vetting requirements, and PSC inspections
