Product Owner
About the job Product Owner
Role & Responsibilities:
- Own product vision and strategy for P&C insurance products and platforms, translating enterprise and portfolio strategy into a clear, value-driven product roadmap.
- Act as the voice of the business and customer, partnering with underwriting, actuarial, compliance, and technology teams to gather insights and define well-scoped problems, desired outcomes, and measurable success criteria.
- Own and continuously prioritize the product backlog, authoring clear, testable user stories and acceptance criteria.
- Define, track, and be accountable for product KPIs, work with cross functional teams to meet the goals.
- Collaborate daily with engineering teams, architects, actuaries, and data teams to clarify requirements, remove blockers, and ensure delivery aligns with business, regulatory, and underwriting outcomes.
- Lead quarterly planning, sprint planning, and backlog refinement with cross-functional squads and stakeholders, setting clear expectations on scope, timelines, and dependencies.
- Coordinate across multiple portfolios and product teams to identify existing capabilities (rating engines, underwriting services, policy administration), promote reuse, and surface capability gaps to reduce duplication.
- Coordinate production releases by managing the deployment of code to production, ensuring timely and accurate delivery of new features to business stakeholders.
- Partner with enterprise and solution architects to understand system impacts, data flows, and dependencies across rating, underwriting, policy systems etc.
- Assess feasibility, cost-of-delay, regulatory impact, and business value for proposed enhancements; influence prioritization decisions using data and insurance domain knowledge.
- Setting priorities and actively participating in team planning and scrum ceremonies
- Working daily with the agile working group, clarifying business requirements, removing roadblocks, constantly communicating, and supporting alignment around product strategy
- Identify the relationships, dependencies and impacts of change (highlighting options) on multiple systems and processes
- Contribute to the project as required to develop proposals, requirements or other project documentation.
- Elicit further requirements and test / challenge assumptions using a variety of methods including interviews, document analysis, workshops and business process descriptions
- Contribute to the Business Solutions Team development of standards / methodology for capturing and publishing business processes, requirements and other documentation
- Defining and documenting epics, user stories, acceptance criteria, etc. for complex solutions
- Work effectively as part of a project team alongside the Senior Product Owner, Scrum master and delivery team
- Ensure product features and releases comply with P&C regulatory requirements, rate-filing constraints, auditability, data privacy, and industry standards; negotiate priorities to maintain compliance without sacrificing value.
- Contribute to team sprint planning and set expectations for delivery of new capabilities, features, and functionalities.
- Participate in team demos, retrospectives, and all other ceremonies.
- Accountable for developing and achieving product level KPIs. Manages product(s) (data products) with a moderate degree of strategy, scope, and complexity.
- Collaborate with technology and business leadership to align system/application integrations in line with business goals and priorities. Resolve open issues/questions quickly and efficiently.
- Set expectations with stakeholders for delivery of new capabilities, features, and functionalities. Participates in team demos, retrospectives, and all other ceremonies.
- Monitor and maintain the product health, supporting long-term product viability and efficiency, and balancing long and short term and costs with desired outcomes.
- Analyze and report on feasibility, cost of delay ramifications, economies, or other aspects of planned or potential changes to the product.
Candidate Profile:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Business Administration, or related field; Master's degree preferred.
- Considerable relevant industry or functional experience in P&C insurance
- Proven experience (5+ years) as a Product Owner, Product Manager, or similar role
- Strong understanding of Agile methodologies, including Scrum and Kanban, and experience working in Agile environments.
- Technical fluency to partner effectively with architects and engineers (systems thinking, dependencies, integration points).
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with the ability to prioritize competing demands effectively.
- Exceptional communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across teams.
- Strong Presentation and leadership skills
- Experience with product management tools such as JIRA, Trello, or Asana, and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Agile practitioner capabilities and experience working with or in Agile teams
- Strong team-work, co-ordination, organization and planning skills
- Ability to capture complex requirements in a prioritized backlog
