About the job Network Engineer (Consultant) VMware to Open Source
We are seeking an experienced Network Engineer (Consultant) to guide and support our migration from a VMware ESX-based data center environment to a robust open-source hypervisor solution specifically Proxmox or VirtualBox.
This is a critical project for our infrastructure strategy and requires a consultant who is an expert in data center virtualization technologies, with proven experience in designing and executing similar migrations.
Key Responsibilities:

Conduct a comprehensive assessment of our current VMware ESX environment.

Advise on the best-fit open-source hypervisor platform (Proxmox or VirtualBox) based on our requirements, budget, and operational needs.

Design a detailed migration roadmap with minimal downtime and risk.

Assist in planning and executing the migration of virtual machines, servers, and related services.

Provide technical oversight and hands-on support during the transition phase.

Develop documentation and best practices for the new environment.

Deliver knowledge transfer and training sessions to our system administrators as needed to ensure they are comfortable managing the new platform.

Offer recommendations for optimizing storage solutions; expertise with NAS technologies is a plus.
Requirements:

Proven experience migrating from VMware to open-source hypervisors in production data center environments.

Expert-level understanding of virtualization, networking, storage, and data center operations.

Strong knowledge of Proxmox, VirtualBox, and other open-source hypervisors.

Familiarity with NAS technologies, storage arrays, and network file systems.

Ability to produce clear technical documentation and migration plans.

Excellent communication skills to effectively collaborate with internal teams.

Previous consulting experience is preferred.
