PURPOSE OF THE JOB: To perform the required tests and analyses safely and record results on samples.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
- Grade 12 (with Maths and Physical Science) or NQF 4 Equivalent is essential
- Analytical Chemistry Diploma or NQF 6 Equivalent is desirable.
- 2 years sampling analyst experience is essential
COMPETENCIES:
- Good communication skills (Fluent in English)
- Excellent Excel, MS Word & PowerPoint skills (Level 3)
- SAP
- Report writing & minute taking skills
- Analytical skills
- Demonstrate understanding of the role and the processes of a laboratory involved in a mining operation
- Demonstrate understanding and knowledge of different activities related to the processing of minerals in the mining and mineral sector
- Knowledge of instrumental analysis (Spectroscopy, Microscopy, Thermal, Electrochemical, Separation, etc.)
- Demonstrate knowledge of traditional analytical techniques (Titrations, Gravimetry, Inorganic Qualitative Analysis)
- Knowledge of sampling theory and laboratory equipment
- Demonstrate knowledge of the main types of analytical chemistry (Quantitative and Qualitative)
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:
- Troubleshoots faults identified on instrument or equipment
- Receives and registers samples in the laboratory
- Logs all incoming samples on LIMS system
- Follows prescribed sampling and testing procedures.
- Dries materials for analytical purposes
- Determines the particle size distribution of samples by means of the sieving technique
- Dissolves solid samples for analysis
- Separates solids from liquids by means of filtration
- Quantifies analyte concentrations in prepared samples by means of Inductively Coupled Plasma Optical Emission Spectrometry, X-Ray Fluorescence Spectrometry, Ultraviolet-Visible Spectrophotometry and X-Ray Fluorescence Spectrometry
- Records test results on worksheet
- Supports and participates in change management initiatives to drive transformation and optimization.
- Participates in regular safety meetings and makes recommendations to ensure overall safety.
- Builds, supports, and maintains healthy diverse internal and external relations and implements remedial actions
- where required.
- Adheres to safety regulations and mine standards, procedures and practices and reports non-compliance.
- Performs regular inspections in area of work and report hazards to ensure environment is safety and hazard free and recommends remedial action where necessary.
