DEPARTMENT: Shafts
PURPOSE OF THE JOB: To safely load and unload men, materials and equipment into and from shaft conveyances and to give necessary signals.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
- Grade 12 or NQF 4 equivalent
- Onsetter Certificate
- 1-3 Years Onsetter experience
COMPETENCIES:
- Demonstrate knowledge pertaining to basic health and safety principles in a workplace.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the functions and the operation of signaling arrangements and safety devices in a shaft.
- Demonstrate an understanding of shaft signals.
- Implements initiatives aimed at eliminating waste, improving productivity and reducing operating costs within scope and assists with the implementation thereof to contribute to the achievement of operational objectives.
- Supports and participates in change management initiatives to drive transformation and optimization.
- Builds, support and maintains healthy diverse internal and external relations and implements remedial actions where required.
- Adheres to safety regulations and mine standards, procedures and practices and reports non-compliance.
- Performs regular inspections in area of work and reports hazards to ensure environment is safety and hazards free and recommends remedial action where necessary.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Transports explosives and accessories by means of rolling stock.
- Mans shaft entrances.
- Gives and receives signals to/from hoist drivers for starting and stopping conveyances.
- Coordinates schedules for the transport of minerals, materials and equipment.
- Loads and removes rolling stock into and from shaft conveyances.
- Loads and unloads persons into and from shaft conveyances.
- Loads long materials in to shaft conveyances.
- Maintains housekeeping standards in the work area.
- Perform basic firefighting.
- Perform basic first aid.
- Identify, inspect, use and care for engineering hand tools.
- Select, use and care for measuring equipment.
- Signal on a lock bell system.
