PURPOSE OF THE JOB: To ensure the production targets are achieved safely through effective management of people.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • Grade 12 or NQF 4 equivalent is essential.
  • Blasting Certificate is essential.
  • Competent A & B is essential
  • 3 - 5 Years' experience as a Production Shift Supervisor is essential (External) or
  • At least 5 years' experience as a Production Miner with clean record is essential (Internal)
  • Shift Supervisor certificate is essential.
  • Basic computer literacy is essential.
  • Valid medical certificate or medically fit in order to obtain such a certificate is essential.

COMPETENCIES:

  • Demonstrating knowledge pertaining to basic health and safety principles in the workplace is essential.
  • Demonstrating a basic understanding of the causes of Falls of Ground (FOG) is essential.
  • Demonstrating an understanding of legislation and compliance with the DMRE is essential.
  • Demonstrating an understanding of legal terms and requirements related to rock breaking is essential.
  • Describing the basic environmental factors of ventilating an underground working place to ensure a safe and healthy working environment is essential.
  • Demonstrating understanding of the importance of safe and efficient blasting processes in an underground hard rock environment is essential.
  • Demonstrating knowledge and understanding of the principles of support in an underground
  • hard rock environment is essential.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:

  • Ensure compliance to managerial and Health and Safety Act legislative requirements as stipulated in 2.15.1 appointment.
  • Achieve planned production target through effective planning, organising, leading and control as well as quality assurance in mining activities.
  • Effectively manage human resources by discipline, guiding, motivating and developing of his or her mining personnel.
  • Effectively manage and maintain all physical resources allocated to him/her by management.
  • Effectively manage and control the financial resources allocated to him/her section.
  • Timeously generate, submit and complete all administrative documentation required for this position.
  • Ensure effective two-way communication within the department in terms of policies, procedures, health and safety related issues and any other day to day working arrangements.
