PURPOSE OF THE JOB: The incumbent is responsible for ensuring the safety, and health of employees (legally responsible as a 2.13.1.) and efficient equipment operation and availability.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • Grade 12 or NQF 4 equivalent is essential.
  • Engineering Degree or NQF 7 Equivalent.
  • GCC Certificate (Mine & Works)
  • Registered as a professional certificated engineer
  • 4-6 years operational experience with mining/plant experience
  • 2-3 years Project Management experience

COMPETENCIES:

  • Electrical or Mechanical engineering theory
  • General management methodologies and principles
  • Financial methodologies and principles (e.g. IRR assessments)
  • Operations/Strategic management principles
  • Operational knowledge related to the mining industry
  • Structural, civil, instrumentation knowledge

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides input to the planning process within the area of control and execute the approved plan in accordance with policies, procedures and processes to ensure achievement of production targets.
  • Performs equipment maintenance services according to the required standards and specifications.
  • Ensures zero harm to employees and the environment by meeting legal and SHE regulations/compliance.
  • Ensures that equipment is well maintained and efficiently managed, i.e. equipment availability for production targets to be met.
  • Ensures effective project delivery to enable future growth and reach production targets.
  • Implements effective financial management processes.
  • Ensures effective people management methodologies, inclusive of people development.
  • Applies engineering expertise, conducts effective design checks/applies appropriate specifications on equipment (quality and safety key criteria).
  • Identifies and recommends initiatives aimed at eliminating waste, improving productivity and reducing operating costs within scope and assists with the implementation thereof to contribute to the achievement of operational objectives.
  • Advises management on business improvements initiatives identified.
  • Builds, supports and maintains healthy diverse internal and external relations and implements remedial actions where required.
  • Adheres to safety regulations and mine standards, procedures and practices and reports non-compliance.
  • Participates in regular safety meetings and makes recommendations to ensure overall safety.
  • Performs regular inspections in area of work and report hazards to ensure environment is safety and hazard free and recommends remedial action where necessary.
