DEPARTMENT / DOMAIN: PROCESSING - SMELTER
PURPOSE OF THE JOB: To monitor and control equipment and processes from a B-Class Control Room in a Mineral Processing Environment in terms of compliance with operational procedures and quality assurance requirements.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
- Grade 12 (with Mathematics and Physical Science) or NQF 4 Equivalent is essential
- 3 years working experience in processing plant environment is essential
- Computer Literacy (Micro Station, MS Office, ISATIS, MRM) is essential
- Valid Medical Certificate or be medically fit in order to obtain such a certificate

- Demonstrate knowledge pertaining to basic Health & Safety principles in a workplace
- Plant knowledge
- Computer knowledge
- Knowledge of environmental policies and procedures
- Operating relevant control room computer system
- Knowledge of safe work procedures
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:
- Monitors and controls the plant, equipment and processes with assistance from the plant supervisor and field operator to ensure safe, efficient and effective operation.
- Responds to non-conformances and emergencies in the processing environment.
- Contributes to team goals, achievements and efficiencies by adhering to agreed working methods.
- Receives instructions from the shift supervisor with regards to the shift hand-over.
- Monitors the operational parameters in a mineral processing environment with assistance from the shift supervisor.
- Interprets, records and reports minerals processing data obtained from visual inspections.
- Works according to the Health and Safety regulations.
- Works and interprets technologically advanced instrumentations and computer systems.
- Understands the impact of up and down steam processes and his role in that context.
- Implements initiatives aimed at eliminating waste, improving productivity and reducing operating costs within scope and assists with the implementation thereof to contribute to the achievement of operational objectives.
- Supports and participates in change management initiatives to drive transformation and optimisation.
- Builds, supports and maintains healthy diverse internal and external relations and implements remedial actions
- where required.
- Provides relevant support to stakeholders to ensure team objectives are achieved.
- Adheres to safety regulations and mine standards, procedures and practices and reports non-compliance.
- Participates in regular safety meetings and makes recommendations to ensure overall safety.
- Performs regular inspections in area of work and report hazards to ensure environment is safety and hazard free and recommends remedial action where necessary.
