  • PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
  • The Executive: Mining Engineering will support the Group Chief Operations Officer (GCOO) to deliver on critical tasks relating to Group health and safety, performance, delivery, collaboration and compliance. The role will provide mining-related support and guidance to the operational management teams and support business and corporate development initiatives.
  • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
  • A relevant NQF level 7 Mining Engineering qualification is essential.
  • Post-graduate qualifications will be an advantage.
  • Relevant membership/licensing and certifications i.e. Mine Managers Certificate of Competency essential.
  • Minimum of 10 years deep-level mining experience, of which five years should be at senior management level.
  • Sound knowledge of the mining industry with in-depth understanding of platinum group metals (PGMs) mining, including mining processes, technologies and best practices.
  • Knowledge of mining and environmental legislative environment, mine standards, COPs, risk assessment processes and systems.
  • Expert knowledge on strategy definition, formulation, communication and execution.
  • Awareness of market dynamics, regulations and environmental policies.
  • Sound project management experience and skills.
  • Must be self-motivated, action-orientated, driven and energised.
  • Highly developed analytical, problem-solving, planning and decision-making skills required.
  • Excellent presentation skills that demonstrate clear, compelling communications.
  • Able to lead change, handle uncertainty and help others adapt to new challenges.
  • Participative leadership style, with the ability to build trust, foster relationships, embrace diversity and value differences in people and cultures.

  • DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide mining advice and support to the Implats executive and operational management teams.
  • Provide mining-related support and guidance to the mining operations and their planned expansion projects.
  • Work with the on-site teams to improve and optimise diverse functions, including reserve estimation, mine planning and scheduling, geotechnical analysis and ground support, mining method selection, mine project design, construction, operations and maintenance.
  • Contribute to process improvement and optimisation programmes, participate in mining review processes and track the implementation of agreed-upon improvement mechanisms.
  • Undertake mining-focused evaluations and conduct due diligence on growth initiatives related to exploration, joint ventures, and potential future merger and acquisition activity.
  • Participate in strategic planning and business planning processes.
  • Assist in training and professional development of the existing mining operational, project and technical staff.
  • Oversee the consistent application of safety and health principles in all disciplines and interactions and take personal responsibility for the safety of self and others to ensure zero harm and eliminate fatalities.
  • Act as a trusted aide to the Group COO by providing technical support and coordinate the execution of critical tasks and projects assigned to the function.
  • Coordinate function and work clusters in support of senior management and to ensure timeous delivery against targets.
  • Lead in preparing budgets for the function, monitoring performance against budget, and identifying opportunities for improved cost management.
  • Coordinate the governance requirements, lead and manage the strategic calendar and provide inputs into business unit calendars.
  • Manage the work plan of the Corporate operations teams and ensure all relevant documents, including presentations, are completed timeously.
  • Develop and manage the design and delivery of proposals for critical stakeholder engagements, in line with the Groups strategic objectives and the function-critical tasks.
  • Develop briefing notes for the Group COO in advance of key internal and external engagements, with input from relevant experts within the function and the business.
  • Coordinate and monitor the function performance scorecard to ensure delivery on commitments.
  • Lead and support the implementation of the strategic initiatives of the function.
  • Support the team in defining their critical tasks and deliverables through proper implementation of monitoring and evaluation processes.
  • Assist the team in resolving challenges that may impact on delivering to commitments.
  • Manage and implement special projects for quick resolution of critical function issues.
