  • PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
  • The purpose of the role is to support and assist the Group Chief Technical Officer deliver critical tasks relating to mining studies, project execution, technical due diligence assessments, annual business planning, operational strategy development, long-term planning and Group strategy compilation.

  • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
  • NQF level 7 or higher qualification in mining engineering and a Mine Managers Certificate of Competency essential
  • Minimum 10 years deep-level mining experience, of which five years should be at senior management level
  • Sound knowledge of the mining industry with in-depth understanding of platinum group metals mining
  • Knowledge of mining and metallurgical processes, methods and associated technologies
  • Competent in strategy definition, formulation, communication and execution
  • Knowledge of the mining and environmental legislative environment, mine standards and COPs, risk assessment, safety and environment, as well as the relevant legislative, statutory, regulatory and permitting requirements
  • Sound knowledge of project management, mining engineering best practice and new technologies and innovation
  • The candidate must be a self-motivated, action-orientated, driven and energised individual
  • Must have a participative leadership style, foster trust, manage relationships and build and embrace diversity
  • Sound business acumen and excellent presentation and stakeholder engagement skills
  • The successful candidate must have advanced analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Be proficient in the use of Microsoft suite of products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint etc.) and have good working knowledge of planning and scheduling software.

  • DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES:
  • Provide specialist mining engineering support to the Implats executive and operational teams on current operations, projects and technical studies
  • Work with subsidiary and associated technical teams to improve and optimise mine planning and scheduling, geotechnical analysis and ground support, mining method selection, mine project design, construction, operation and maintenance
  • Provide technical mining-related guidance to operations, projects, financial modelling and evaluation teams
  • Provide insight and recommendations to support the overall business objectives through detailed analysis and assessment of operational production and performance data
  • Lead and conduct mining-focused technical due diligence processes for the evaluation of operational optimisation as well as merger and acquisition initiatives
  • Lead and coordinate the compilation and delivery of the Groups five-year business plan for approval
  • Lead and manage functional strategic calendars and inputs into the business units calendars
  • Implement systems and processes across business planning, life-of-mine planning and corporate development functions
  • Prepare and deliver comprehensive reports and presentations for executive teams, summarising business planning, project progress and strategic initiatives
  • Develop compliance frameworks, and monitor adherence to corporate governance requirements and best practices
  • Stay abreast with industry trends and innovations and actively network to identify potential enhancements.
