PURPOSE OF THE JOB: To service and maintain Diesel Electrical Locomotives as per Rail Regulator Standards.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

• Grade 12 (NQF level 4) with Maths & Science is essential.
• Trade Certificate (Diesel Electrical Fitter) is essential.
• 4-6 years previous working experience in electric locomotives, on GE UM10B, U26C Diesel and 8E locomotives is essential.
• Knowledge of electrical and fitter equipment is essential.
• Valid medical certificate or be medically fit in order to obtain such a certificate.

COMPETENCIES:

• Knowledge of electrical wiring is essential.
• Knowledge of Cat 35 12B and GE 7FDL 12-cylinder engines.
• Reading of electrical and fitter diagrams would be is essential.
• Good knowledge of electronics (PLC Operating Systems) would be an advantage.
• Communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
• Computer Literacy (MS Office) is essential.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:

• To service and conduct preventative maintenance on a regular basis to prevent breakdowns and equipment failure on locomotives.
• To attend to breakdowns are timeously and effectively to minimise equipment standing time and avoid production delays.
• To ensure that all work is carried out in a safe manner as per Impala safety standards, rules, and procedures.
• To ensure that all defects are reported to the relevant Foreman without delay.
• To effectively supervise, delegate and take charge of subordinates.
• To ensure that all legal appointments are inspected and maintained on a regular basis.

• To ensure that all the SAP job cards are completed on time.
