About the job Diesel Mechanic
PURPOSE OF THE JOB: To safely fault finding, replace, maintain, and repair components on vehicles/earthmoving equipment.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
- An N2 in Mechanical Engineering (NQF Level 4) is essential.
- Recognised relevant Trade Qualification (Section 26D) OR proof of recognised completed apprenticeship contract (completed by means of effluxion of time) NTC 2 (relevant Trade Theory, specialised courses) (desirable)
- 2 years experience as a Diesel Mechanic on Forklifts, Telescopic boom handlers, and earth-moving equipment is essential (Manitou, Clark and Bell models would be preferable)
- Hydraulic experience will be an advantage
- Experience in a mining environment will be advantageous.
- A valid medical certificate or be medically fit in order to obtain such a certificate
COMPETENCIES:
- Understanding of engineering drawings for an engine of vehicles and earthmoving equipment.
- Understanding of body component drawings for vehicles and earthmoving equipment.
- Understanding of drawings of vehicles and earthmoving equipment systems.
- § Understanding of principles of fault finding on vehicles and earthmoving equipment.
- Understanding of components and the purposes of the components of vehicles and earthmoving equipment.
- Understanding of the components of vehicles and earthmoving equipment, logbook and where to look to ascertain the type of work required.
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:
- Complete Job Cards recording work done and parts replaced.
- Conduct inspections on damaged/breakdown vehicles and earthmoving equipment.
- Assess and determine vehicle and earthmoving equipment damage and scope of repairs.
- Conduct fault finding on vehicles / earthmoving equipment and apply applicable remedy.
- Inspect vehicles and earthmoving equipment for faults and roadworthiness before handing back to user.
- Control quality of repair and maintenance processes and the quality of finished work.
- Plan for maintenance and repair work.
- Carry out vehicle and earthmoving equipment services.
- Dismantle, remove, and replace components.
- Remove, replace, and align body parts.
- Remove body trim and accessories.
