PURPOSE OF THE JOB: To supervise the safe, effective and efficient operation of a designated section in the metallurgical plant.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
- Grade 12 /NQF Level 4 is essential
- Minimum of 3 years job experience as a Plant Shift Leader/Senior Control Room Operator is essential
- Diploma/Degree in Metallurgy/Chemical Engineering will be an advantage
- Previous relieving/acting experience as a Foreman would be advantageous
- Completion of PTOs and disciplinary handling training would be advantageous
- Computer literacy (MS Office package) is essential
- SAP knowledge will be advantageous
- Valid medical certificate or be medically fit in order to obtain such a certificate
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Check staffing figures at start of shift and ensure that all plant activities are functionally covered.
- Familiarise him/herself with production process activities, trends and brief operators accordingly at the start of each shift.
- Take corrective actions and instruct staff accordingly in significant deviations in the processing plant which may influence production or safety.
- Ensure work schedules are adhered to by all team members
- Interpret information from plant readings and determine required adjustments to maximise efficient production
- Meet operational targets for the shift
- Do proper shift hand over on all required information to the next shift
- Maintain a reliable reporting and communication system that is in place
- Supervise the work unit to achieve work unit objective (individuals and teams)
- Ensure discipline is maintained in the work area (absenteeism, time management, overtime, misconduct (etc.)
