PURPOSE OF THE JOB: To provide technical assistance (i.e. projects, test work, etc.) to the plant/operations to ensure optimal operation and the continual improvement of the process. To conduct capital plan items (design, commission, implementation and project management) to meet Implats business plan profile.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
- NQF Level 7 qualification in Chemical Engineering.
- 1-2 years' experience only required with a B-Tech degree.
- Comprehension of chemical/metallurgical processes and project management, engineering principles required.
- Basic understanding of applicable legislation i.e. OHSACT.
- Computer literacy proficiency i.e. MS Office essential.
- Strong organising and planning skills with the ability to work independently.
- Good communication-, presentation- and problem-solving skills essential.
- Must be medically fit for Base Metal Refinery (BMR).
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Undertake work alongside operations and complete relevant modules to indicate understanding and plant training familiarisation.
- Identify problems and conduct research (troubleshooting, problem-solving and investigations).
- Generate solutions to problems to address the nature, extent and complexity of the problem within the determined time constraints.
- Update the basis of design, process operation and operation philosophy.
- Conduct HAZOP studies and P&ID modifications.
- Anticipate potential production problems through troubleshooting.
- Compile a written report of the troubleshooting exercise conducted which reveals potential weaknesses in processing equipment and make recommendations for corrective action within a specified timeframe.
- Perform planned job observations, process inspections and meerkat audits.
- Make technical and process improvements after investigation and troubleshooting.
- Promotion of safety awareness by ensuring that design and/or activities reflect safety and environmentally healthy standards.
