Job Title: Shaft Foreman

PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
To supervise safe hoisting activities and shaft maintenance.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
- Grade 12 certificate (NQF Level 4) is essential
- Valid permanent Blasting Certificate is essential
- Valid Onsetter Certificate is essential
- At least 5 years relevant shaft operational experience as a timberman is essential.
- Computer literacy (MS Office package) is essential.
- Experience in the operation of vertical and decline ore and material transport is an advantage.
- Valid medical certificate or medically fit to obtain such a certificate.
COMPETENCIES:
- Knowledge of the safe movement of men, material and equipment on the bank and shaft area, and maintaining the shaft in good working order is essential.
- Knowledge of Environmental Management Systems would be an advantage
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintain schedules for all activities on the vertical and incline/decline
- Ensure compliance with vertical and incline/decline schedules
- Supervise and conduct vertical and incline/decline schedules
- Supervise and conduct regular checks on all vertical and incline/decline machinery and equipment.
- Supervise and check and maintain ore passes on the vertical and incline/decline
- Supervise the receiving, handling, storing, and issuing explosives and accessories at a workplace.
- Co-ordinate schedules for the transport of minerals, materials, and equipment
- Compile reports and keep statistics as required
- Supervise and monitor individuals and team performances
- Monitor performance against budget (expense control, variances, etc.)
- Liaise with a range of customers and suppliers
