PURPOSE OF THE JOB: To monitor and control equipment and processes in a B-class control room. To assist the Senior Control Room Operator in an A-class control room in monitoring and controlling equipment and processes from a Mineral Processing Environment in terms of compliance with operational procedures and quality assurance requirements.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • Grade 12 (NQF Level 4) is essential
  • Completion of the Furnaces training modules is essential
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in the Furnaces section is essential
  • Relieving as a Control Room Operator would be an advantage
  • Computer Literacy (Microsoft Office) is essential
  • Valid Medical Certificate or be medically fit in order to obtain such a certificate

  • Must be self-driven, highly motivated with good people skills
  • Must maintain a high standard of work
  • Must have knowledge of operating relevant control room computer system
  • Must have good organizing, delegation skills and communication skills
  • Must have knowledge of safe work procedures

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:

  • Monitor and control the plant, equipment and processes with assistance from the relevant shift supervisor/Foreman and field operator to ensure safe, efficient & effective operation.
  • Implement preventive and or remedial action in accordance with operating procedures as directed by Shift supervisor/Foreman and field operator input.
  • Respond to non-conformances and emergencies in the processing environment. 
  • Contribute to team goals, achievements and efficiencies by adhering to agreed working methods.
  • Receive instructions from the Supervisor/Foreman with regards to the shift hand-over.
  • Monitor the operational parameters in a mineral processing environment, under the control of the Supervisor/Foreman.
  • Interpret, record and report minerals processing data obtained from visual inspections.
  • Work according to the Health and Safety regulations.
  • Understand and interpret technologically advanced instrumentations and computer systems data.
  • Understand the impact of up and downstream processes and his/her role in that context.
