PURPOSE OF THE JOB: To supervise and assist the team in the safe and cost-effective execution of all mechanical maintenance work.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • Grade 12/STD 10/NQF Level 4 is essential.
  • Recognized and relevant Mechanical Trade qualification is essential.
  • At least 3 years working experience as an artisan is essential
  • Working experience as an artisan in processing Concentrator environment is advantageous.
  • Computer literacy (MS Office package & SAP) is essential.
  • Previous acting experience as an engineering foreman is advantageous.
  • Completed Foreman Development Course is advantageous.
  • Valid Medical Certificate or medically fit in order to obtain such a certificate.

COMPETENCIES:

  • Legal knowledge of Mine Health and Safety Act and Regulations is essential.
  • Lead and supervise safety related issues in the section is essential.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:

  • Supervise mechanical maintenance activities.
  • Direct Artisans according to emergency activities
  • Attend to callouts with regards to mechanical breakdown
  • Maintain control of engineering workshop and stores
  • Provide adequate workshop store facility and stock levels for efficient maintenance and productivity levels.
  • Control and order stock for all parts, equipment and materials required.
  • Develop and fabricate from complex drawings, such as tanks, pipelines, frames, and structures.
  • Review mechanical drawings to suite site requirements.
  • Manage projects relating to engineering processes and facilities.
  • Diagnose and repair faults on equipment and machinery during production/operation.
  • Analyse and solving mechanical problems.
  • Commission assembly/machines
  • Ensure legal compliance according to MHSA Regulations
  • Monitor performance against budget (expense controls, variances, etc.)
  • Write technical reports.
  • Supervise the work unit to achieve work unit objectives (individuals and teams)
  • Plan, organise and control work in own area of responsibility.
  • Manage subordinates, lead and conduct on-the-job training and coaching.
