About the job Transactional Buying Manager
PURPOSE OF THE JOB: To manage and oversee the transactional buying department and its employees. To participate in the procurement processes to ensure goods and services required are available in an efficient and effective manner whilst adhering to policies/procedures and setting targets for departmental achievement in line with the long-term objectives of Impala.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
- B. Com degree (or equivalent 3-year qualification) is essential
- Min of 4 years purchasing experience is essential preferably within commercial/mining environment.
- CIPS Qualification in Procurement and Supply chain management will be an advantage.
COMPETENCIES:
- Knowledge of current economic indices and the Mining Charter 3 (MC3) is essential
- Sound knowledge of the product ranges typical to the mining industry is advantageous
- Basic understanding of legislation relevant to the mining industry, i.e. Labour legislation, Occupational Health and Safety Act etc. is advantageous
- Basic knowledge of contractual law is advantageous
- Computer skills (Microsoft Office and SAP ERP) are essential
- Negotiation skills, interpersonal skills, i.e. people skills, communication skills, leadership skills, etc. are essential
- Accuracy and analytical skills are essential
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:
- Protect the corporate image of the company and to develop and coach employees within the PTP department
- Consciously evaluate the Transactional Buying procedure and mitigate identified risks
- Deliver a service to all internal stakeholders regarding the full procurement process, off contract spend.
- Monitor performance of daily buyers to ensure that purchase orders are placed within predetermined service levels.
- Give preference to transformed suppliers where appropriate and encourage current suppliers to transform in compliance with the Mining Charter.
- Achieve set out Mining Charter targets. (MC3)
- Approve ad-hoc orders placed by transactional buyers to ensure the suitable commercial processes have been applied and is in line with the Impala approval framework.
- Identify and initiate repetitive spend items to be added to contract or administrate new contracts (either one-on-one or as commercial leader of cross-functional team) to justify and challenge supplier price adjustments and specification changes for purchasing control purposes.
- Compile and report weekly/monthly on KPIs.
