PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

The Laboratory Supervisor is responsible for ensuring the implementation of and strict compliance with standard practices of analysis of impurities in refinery feeds, intermediates and products, and the purity of final products and for routine troubleshooting.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

• Grade 12 with Maths and Science is essential.
• NQF Level 6 in Chemistry or Analytical Chemistry will be an added advantage.
• Completion of all PML modules and relevant courses as per CPDP is essential.
• Minimum of 3 to 5 years relevant experience in the PML.
• Safety permit is essential.
• Supervisory courses and an assessor certificate are required.
• Sound knowledge of specific laboratory processes/instruments/equipment.
• Knowledge of company policies, procedures, rules, and regulations including ISO standards.
• Must be computer literate, specifically have knowledge of CCLAS, MAPS, and SAP.
• Must be medically fit for the Platinum Metal Refinery.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Carry out all tasks associated with the PML Laboratory Supervisor.
• Supervision of personnel and operations (clarifying roles and setting objectives for subordinates, identifying individual development needs, controlling time keeping in line with company rules and regulations, applying disciplinary code consistently, planning leave schedules to ensure critical staffing levels, monitoring on-the-job training, etc).
• Monitor consumption of chemicals and maintain optimal stock levels etc.
• Attainment of standards (ensure timely analysis throughput in all sections, availability of stock, standards, and equipment, prepare calibration standards, etc).
• Conduct planned job observations, perform laboratory inspections, and report abnormal sectional maintenance.
• Ensure compliance with all company procedures, standards, rules, and regulations.
• Promote and maintain safety, quality, environmental, security and good housekeeping in area of responsibility.
• Ensuring that daily analyses are checked, completed timeously and adhere to quality requirements.
• Ensure sample registration on LIMS and that the results are entered and exported from the LIMS to MAPS.
