DEPARTMENT / DOMAIN:  BMR ENGINEERING - LEACH

PURPOSE OF THE JOB: To safely rig, lift and move minor equipment and materials using various lifting and rigging techniques to ensure plant / operations performance is maintained within normal operating parameters.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • Trade Certificate as Rigger / Rigger Ropesman essential.
  • Forklift and overhead crane license will be an added advantage.
  • Relevant experience in a mining / chemical environment will be an added advantage.
  • Sound knowledge of regulatory requirements pertaining to rigging operations.
  • Knowledge of safety permit, lock out and isolation procedures required.
  • Knowledge of sling methods and crane signals.
  • Knowledge of safe working loads of lifting equipment, angles for slings and chains.
  • The ability to read, interpret and produce engineering drawings.
  • Practical thinker with sound problem-solving skills.
  • Must be medically fit for BMR.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES:

  • Planning of the work to be conducted by determining the requirements for the equipment-, lifting and moving- and power equipment.
  • Sling complex loads and communicate effectively during crane operations.
  • Install steel wire ropes and secure ropes using thimbles and Crosby clamps.
  • Splice ropes and construct nautical knots as required.
  • Lifting and moving of material / equipment using different lifting and rigging techniques.
  • Lifting equipment maintenance and inspections to be done on overhead cranes (limits, safety latches, rope guides, etc) and lifting equipment (lever hoist, turfors and chain blocks).
  • On the job training of engineering learners as and when required.
  • Ensure maximum plant availability through proper maintenance.
  • Promote and maintain good housekeeping in area of responsibility.
