PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

To ensure safety, health of employees (legally responsible as a 2.13.1.) and ensure efficient equipment operation and availability.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • BEng / BSc /National Diploma in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering is essential
  • Government Certificate of Competency Mines and Works in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering is essential (2.13.3.1)
  • 2 - 5 years operational experience within the Mineral Processing environment is essential carrying a legal appointment as Engineer (2.13.1 / 2.13.3.1)
  • Registration as a professional certificated engineer would be an advantage
  • 2-year recognised Junior Engineering program training is essential.
  • 2 to 3 years Project Management experience would be desirable.
  • Valid Medical Certificate or medically fit in order to obtain such a certificate.

COMPETENCIES:

  • Extensive Electrical and Mechanical knowledge on Mineral Processing equipment will be essential.
  • Applied knowledge of general management methodologies and principles would be advantageous.
  • Must have Legal & Operational knowledge related to the Mineral Processing environment within the Mining industry.
  • Applied knowledge of strategic management principles would be advantageous
  • Computer Literacy (MS Office, MS Project, SAP R/3) is essential.
  • Time management and negotiation skills are advantageous
  • Data analysis and Presentation skills are essential
  • Mentoring and coaching skills are advantageous
  • Preventative maintenance skills are essential
  • Project management knowledge is desirable

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • To ensure zero harm to employees and the environment by meeting legal and SHEQ regulations/ compliance.
  • To ensure that equipment is well maintained and efficiently managed, i.e., equipment availability is good to ensure that production targets are met.
  • To ensure effective project delivery to enable future growth and reach production targets
  • To implement effective financial management processes.
  • To ensure effective people management methodologies, inclusive of people development (subordinates vary between 200 400).
  • To apply engineering expertise, conduct effective design checks/ apply appropriate specifications on equipment (quality & safety key criteria)
  • To perform routine maintenance on Mills including all its auxiliaries, compressors, pumps, crushers, conveyors, furnaces, spray and flash dryers, converters and acid plant equipment.
  • Legislative and Regulatory compliance.
