Job Title: Data Officer

PURPOSE OF THE JOB: Responsible for development and governance of data and information strategy in order to drive business decisions and growth. The role encompasses the organisation, collation, protection and analyses of data assets while ensuring that the company meets industry best practices. Other duties will include improving and streamlining data systems within the organisation and driving innovation.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • Grade 12 /STD 10 (NQF 4) is essential
  • Electrical/ Mechanical /Instrumentation Trade Certificate
  • Diploma or NQF 6 Equivalent (Information Science/Computer Science/Management Information Systems)
  • 3-5 Years Exposure to similar role in a Mining Environment
  • 2-3 Data Analytics/Data Management Experience

COMPETENCIES:

  • Knowledge of Data Management, IT networking, Control principles and methodologies.
  • Basics of Data Management Book of Knowledge (DMBOK) and/or other data management principles and methodologies to drive data quality across an organisation.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access applications and SAP
  • Data Mining and Reporting Skills

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:

  • Assists in the creation of data management systems that facilitate the secure collection and processing of data.
  • Effects flow amongst data sources and legacy systems and ensures the maintenance thereof.
  • Ensures the alignment of relevant policies and procedures to the management of data.
  • Scrutinises and correlates key data to ensure quality and standard adherence as well as provides such data to aid in business decisions.
  • Keeps up to date with ever-changing data protection regulations.
  • Collects, analyses and interprets trends or patterns in complex data sets using statistical techniques.
  • Produces reports, demonstrates trend lines and intervention actions as required.
  • Demonstrates and supports new data collection and management methodologies that add value to the business.
  • Filters and cleans data by identification of data quality issues subsequently introducing remedial measures.
  • Implements data privacy policies and regulates the compliance of data protection regulations.
  • Develops and executes advanced data collection, data analysis as well as other strategies that optimizes statistical efficiency and quality.
  • Confirms the conformity of a standard approach to data quality and management across the organisation.
  • Examines complex data to optimise efficiency and quality collected, resolves data quality problems, and collaborates with database developers to improve systems and database designs.
