PURPOSE OF THE JOB: Manage the effective functioning of a shift from a production, equipment utilization and labour perspective, and highlights performance deficiencies and solutions.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
- Grade 12 with Maths and Science is essential.
- National Certificate Mineral Processing Level 2/Metallurgical Skills Programme is essential.
- Must have competed the Impala Supervisory Programme (ISP) or Shift Leader Development Programme (SLDP).
- Previous relieving/acting experience as a Plant Foreman/Shift Leader would be advantageous.
- Diploma or NQF 6 Equivalent in Metallurgy/Chemical Engineering would be an advantage.
- 5 Years Experience in a Processing Environment is essential.
- 3 Years Experience as a Process Supervisor / Shift Leader is essential.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plan throughput through liaison with production superintendent and engineering teams.
- Liaise with the Production Superintendent continually on the sections plant operation and maintenance activities.
- Ensure that operating standards and procedures are up to date and understood by the team.
- Liaise with Senior Metallurgist for technical support requirements.
- Monitor plant performance and advise on the settings of machinery to optimize performance.
- Audit the process regularly to ensure conformance to and understanding of standards.
- Oversees during breakdowns, emergencies or, poor plant performance to co-ordinate support from other disciplines.
- Communicate plant defects to the engineering department.
- Supervise section to achieve given target.
- Monitor control room operation.
- Control shut down and start-up of the entire process.
- Ensure that materials and equipment are available for the shifts requirements.
- Ensure that the process flow within the section is balanced.
- Communicate process problems to necessary people.
- Control metal flows.
