About the job Foreman Mechanical Winders
PURPOSE OF THE JOB: To supervise and assist the team in the safe and cost-effective execution of all mechanical maintenance work.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
- Grade 12 /STD 10 (NQF 4) is essential.
- Recognized relevant Trade qualification (section 13/26D) is essential.
OR
- Proof of recognised completed apprenticeship contract (completed by means of effluxion of time)
AND
- NTC 2 (Relevant Trade Theory) Qualification is essential.
- Minimum of 5 years working experience as a Winder Artisan is essential.
- Completion of Winder modules is essential.
- Computer literacy (MS Office package & SAP) is essential.
- Valid Medical Certificate, or medically fit in order to obtain such a certificate.
COMPETENCIES:
- Legal knowledge of Mine Health and Safety Act and Regulations is essential.
- Good experience and working knowledge of maintenance and operation of:
Vertical shafts & winding plants
winding ropes & conveyances
silo & bulkhead structures
shaft ore-handling systems
conveyor systems
surface main fans
multi-stage pumps
dirty water settlers
change houses & hot water calorifiers
- A relevant trade and in-depth knowledge of friction winder will be an advantage
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:
- Supervise mechanical maintenance activities.
- Direct Artisans according to emergency priorities as per their job requirements.
- Attend to callouts with regards to mechanical breakdowns.
- Maintain control of Engineering workshop and stores.
- Control and order stock for all parts, equipment and materials required.
- Design basic mechanical components, pneumatic and hydraulic circuits.
- Diagnose and repair faults on equipment and machinery in operation.
- Analyse breakdowns to identify the root cause.
- Commission and assemble machinery and equipment.
- Supervise non-destructive tests on safety and production critical equipment.
- Monitor performance against budget (expense controls, variances, etc.).
- Compile technical reports, method statements and risk assessments.
- Supervise the work unit to achieve work unit objectives (individuals and teams).
- Plan, organise and control work in own area of responsibility.
- Lead and conduct on-the-job training and coaching.
