PURPOSE OF THE JOB: To safely perform barring practices and drill blasts, support and service holes for blasting, for service and support installation purposes by means of a Drill Rig hard rock mine.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
- Grade 12 or NQF 4 Equivalent
- Valid code B Driver's License
- Minimum of 3 Years experience in operating a Drill Rig
COMPETENCIES:
- Adheres to safety regulations and mine standards, procedures and practices and reports non-compliance.
- Participates in regular safety meetings and makes recommendations to ensure overall safety.
- Performs regular inspections in area of work and report hazards to ensure environment safety and hazard free and recommends remedial action where necessary.
- Demonstrate knowledge of the most common harmful gasses and vapours.
- Demonstrate knowledge pertaining to basic health and safety principles in a workplace.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the identification of and dealing with rock strata conditions.
- Demonstrate understanding of the importance of correctly dealing with misfires.
- Demonstrate understanding of the importance of safe and efficient drilling processes in an underground hard rock environment.
- Demonstrate understanding of the importance of safe and efficient timing of blasts in an underground hard rock environment.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Performs proper machine appreciation.
- Safely manoeuvres the machine to and from working area.
- Efficiently communicates with the supervisor.
- Identifies poor strata conditions and deal effectively accordingly.
- Identifies the misfires and report to the responsible person.
- Performs proper machine setup procedures.
- Performs barring procedures to the Drill Rig with the emphasis on barring sequence, hanging wall, side wall and face.
- Drills and installs support as per Mine Standards and Rock Engineering Recommendations.
- Drills shot holes with the emphasis on a quality blast.
