About the job Geology Observer
PURPOSE OF THE JOB: To assist with underground mapping, capturing of geological features in electronic systems, Studio Mapper and SABLE, record underground face observations data and report on safety aspects.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
- Grade 12 NQF Level 4 is essential.
- National Certificate in Mine Technical Support NQF 2 is essential.
- Basic Sampling Certificate is essential.
- Elementary Sampling Certificate is essential.
- Minimum of 3 years underground experience in Geology or Sampling Department is essential
- Minimum of 1-year previous experience in underground recording of geological features is essential
- Valid medical certificate is essential and must be fit in order to obtain such a certificate

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:
- Identifies, maps (in stopes, main development and re-development ends) and captures all geological features electronically.
- Identify and report to the Geologist, Rock Engineering and Mining Departments all geological
features that may impact on safety.
- Assist Geologists with the relevant start-ups, pre-ledge inspections and management of re-development ends.
- Record underground stope observations as per Impala procedures to measure compliance with mining instructions.
- Report on issues impacting on the quality of development and stopping operations.
- Adhere to Mine safety principles, participate in initiatives and safety drives.
- Provide Reports as per standard reporting templates.
- Coaches mining personnel to identify basic rock types, reef types, grade distribution, dilution control and geological safety hazards.
