PURPOSE OF THE JOB: Ensures a safe mining practice with regards to strata control through the management of mining layouts and evaluation of ground conditions and the managements of standards and procedures.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • Grade 12/Matric or NQF4 with Maths and Science is essential
  • Chamber of Mines Strata Control Certificate is essential
  • Chamber of Mines Rock Mechanic Certificate is desirable
  • Strata Control observer training experience is essential
  • 2 Years experience as a Strata Control Technician is essential
  • 2-4 Years mining background production experience is desirable

  • Rock Engineering functions
  • Report writing skills
  • Computer literate (MS Office)
  • Attention to Detail

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:

  • Stops falls of ground and reduce related risks.
  • Monitors ground movement and ground conditions and assist the Rock Engineering Officer with making recommendations.
  • Provides a support function to the production personnel during planning process and the day-to-day running of the mine.
  • Assists with the developing standards and ensures the Impala safe mining standards and procedures are implemented and enforced.
  • Manages the subordinates (junior strata officers and observers) evaluating their performance on a continuous basis and actively coaching them to enhance their understanding and procedures.
  • Coaches the production personnel on strata control principals and procedures.
