PURPOSE OF THE JOB: To design, implement and maintain a nursing training framework that will enable well-structured training and development of nurses at the health facilities. To maintain high standards of nursing practice and health care services through continuous training and development; and the design of relevant and appropriate curriculum.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
- § Grade 12/NQF4 equivalent is essential
- § Nursing Diploma / Degree in nursing science is essential
- § Registered with the South African Nursing Council as a Professional Nurse is essential
- § Post graduate qualification in nursing education or equivalent is essential
- § 3–5 years' supervisory or management experience within a nursing or healthcare environment is essential
- § 3–5 years' experience in nursing education, clinical training, facilitation or staff development is essential
- § Must have a valid medical certificate or be medically fit in order to obtain such a certificate
COMPETENCIES:
- § Knowledge of relevant legislation e.g. SANC regulations
- § Knowledge of Department of Health regulations
- § Interpersonal relationship and leadership skills
- § SAP Knowledge
- § MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:
- § Plans, coordinates and monitors nursing training programmes to ensure continuous professional development of nursing staff.
- § Identifies training needs and skills gaps among nursing personnel and develops appropriate training interventions.
- § Ensures nursing staff are equipped with the required knowledge, skills and competencies to deliver safe, effective and quality patient care.
- § Develops, reviews and implements nursing training curricula in line with organisational, professional and regulatory requirements.
- § Coordinates the allocation, orientation, supervision and evaluation of nursing students within the hospital and clinic environment.
- § Maintains sound working relationships with universities, nursing colleges and relevant training institutions.
- § Ensures compliance with South African Nursing Council requirements, Department of Health, Department of Health standards and internal policies.
- § Facilitates in-service training, clinical coaching, mentorship and competency assessments for nursing staff.
- § Monitors training attendance, training records and staff competency outcomes.
- § Supports quality improvement initiatives by ensuring nursing practice is aligned with approved standards, procedures and evidence-based care.
- § Provides guidance and support to nursing managers, supervisors and clinical staff on training-related matters.
- § Prepares reports on training activities, student placements, competency outcomes and development needs.
- § Ensures there is a training matrix plan and allocation of nurses for training and identifies appropriate courses.
- § Builds and maintains relationships with training institutions, universities and nursing colleges.
