PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
The Group Principal Engineer will provide technical assurance to ensure the safe, compliant, and reliable operation and maintenance of mining and processing mechanical systems, including TMM, RBE, large rotating mechanical equipment, groundhandling systems, cooling, ventilation and smelting infrastructure.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
- NQF Level 7 qualification in Mechanical Engineering and Government Certificate of Competency (GCC).
- Professional Engineering registration and management qualifications will be advantageous.
- Minimum of 10 years' experience, with at least 5 years in a senior management role.
- Proven project management experience.
- Broad knowledge of Health Safety and Environmental (HSE) compliance requirements applicable to mining and processing operations.
- Strong understanding of mining and processing operations.
- Comprehensive knowledge of legislative frameworks applicable to Mining Operations.
- Demonstrated expertise in implementing and managing electrical asset lifecycle strategies to optimise reliability and performance.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with exceptional interpersonal and relationship management skills.
- Detail-oriented, self-driven, and results-focused.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide effective oversight and assurance on the design and maintenance of mechanical systems and associated infrastructure to reduce operational and business risk.
- Deliver specialist technical mechanical engineering consultancy and advisory support throughout the organisation.
- Develop and implement roadmaps for the adoption of emerging technology advances that hold strategic significance for the group and support digital transformation in operations and maintenance.
- Conduct technical audits to validate compliance with established mechanical engineering standards and promote adoption of innovative practices across the group.
- Implement a structured and systematic Asset Integrity process to prevent occurrences of unwanted significant infrastructure failure events
- Lead the formulation and implementation oversight of appropriate strategic and tactical turnaround interventions in Operations where the desired performance of mechanical systems is below acceptable thresholds.
- Ensure applied maintenance strategies and tactics are delivering to defined availability, reliability and lifecycle costs per operating hour performance matrices.
- Monitor and benchmark performance metrics to drive continuous improvement initiatives.
- Investigate mechanical system failures, determine root causes, and recommend corrective actions.
- Communicate with relevant stakeholders to enhance the safety and reliability of mechanical installations
- Support organisational transformation and empowerment objectives and succession planning.
